Mama Katie’s is hands down one of the best breakfast spots I’ve been to in a long time. It has that perfect blend of homestyle cooking and diner-style comfort that’s hard to find in the Cornelius area. We actually drove out here because there just aren’t any true diners nearby, and it was absolutely worth it.

I ordered the Backwoods Benedict — a biscuit with sausage, poached egg, and country gravy on top (you get two of them) — and it was amazing. I also got hash browns with onions and cheese added, and they were cooked perfectly. The French toast was delicious, my girlfriend’s omelet was great, and everything tasted fresh and hearty. The bacon was probably the weakest part of the meal (about a 6.5/10), but it was still decent. Everything else was easily an 8–9/10.

The portions are generous — one of those meals where you clean your plate and then want to go home and nap. The service was friendly and attentive, about an 8/10, and the overall experience was easily a solid 9/10. Prices were very reasonable for the amount of food we got.

The outside doesn’t look like much (it’s in what looks like an office-style building), so don’t let that fool you. Once you’re inside, the food and atmosphere definitely give you that family-style, diner feel.

If you’re looking for hearty, delicious breakfast food that feels like home, Mama Katie’s is the place. We’ll definitely be coming back, and I’d recommend it to anyone who wants that diner-style comfort without having to drive too far.

I had the chicken fried chicken with eggs and grits. The chicken was perfectly fried, the eggs were cooked to perfection and the grits were amazing. If you’re thinking about eating here, do it!

The staff is friendly and attentive. The toast was crispy, buttery, and delicious. But my wife ordered over easy eggs that came out scrambled, not a huge deal. But her chicken fried chicken was terrible. We both tried it and found it inedible. Obviously this may have been a fluke because the staff said it was their best seller. They took it off the bill and apologized. We may give them another shot, but for now it’s 3 stars.

Very quaint little diner ran by a friendly woman named Mama Katie, she was pleasant and charming. Even though the restaurant was full she made ever effort to ensure the service was top notch. We had breakfast and everything was delicious.
