As some have already pointed out, this is now Mark's Family Diner, but apparently is still serving the great favorites that Grumpy's was known for. When I arrived, they were out of the homemade corned beef hash that is so hugely popular here and I opted for the gyro omelet instead. It was awesome..... a very large omelet stuffed with lots of gyro meat, onions and cheese. Like lots of places now, they were short staffed, with one waitress carrying the front of house. Even while hustling double time, she was the most friendly cheerful person, you just wanted to hug her. This is a real gem that you don't find often. Don't miss it.

No longer Grumpy's; sold to Mark's 2 months ago. Everyone enjoyed their breakfast. Nothing fancy, but a very good breakfast.

Grumpys has changed names to Marks of Morehead City. Great breakfast always! Usually a wait but go off season and you can get right in.

Went for breakfast. Hot cakes, eggs, sausage. Had a short wait. Food was good, service was okay. With all of the other choices, probably won't go back.

This restaurant lives up to the name when considering first impressions. There is a sign on the door to wait to be seated. It doesn’t say to wait outside. However, when we opened the door, the occupants turned their heads to gawk at us like we were unwanted. Then, we were told very gruffly by a gentleman staff member to wait outside until they cleaned some tables off. We were finally asked inside a good 10 minutes later even though the restaurant was not at capacity. At one point, there were more people outside waiting to be seated than were inside the restaurant. The waitress was very overworked and was doing the best that she could to keep up with all the tables. I think I overheard her mention to someone that a staff person had just quit that morning. The eggs and toast were good, but their home fries were not done. Their sausage links were undercooked and raw inside. Their drinks were very expensive. For them to serve lunch, their hours are weird as their sign said they close at 12:15 pm. My instinct told me to leave after we were told to wait outside, but I decided we should give them a try. Oh how I wished I had listened to my instinct.

We had a very good breakfast here, however we were definitely rushed out even though it was an hour before their advertised closing time.

Local place but does not even come close to The Banks Grill. Slow surface, rude hostess. Ran out of potatoes by 10:00 and joked about it. Ran out of sugar free syrup. Too bad for diabetics I guess. Waitress was dripping sweat despite it being rather cool inside. Not a pleasant sight. Food was average. There are too many other places to go for breakfast that are far better. You get what you pay for here.

Visited for breakfast based on other reviews. Had read that the skillets were good, so I tried the Coastal as recommended by the server. It was delicious! Our other breakfast platter was also good. Enjoyed hearing the greetings to the locals as they came in for a meal. Would definitely return!

We chose Grumpy’s for a late breakfast as we headed to Beaufort. They were busy (Saturday morning), but the servers were friendly and the food came quickly. I had half order of corned beef hash with an egg. It was delicious and filling. I couldn’t finish it all. I tried my husband’s French Toast from his breakfast plate. It had great flavor. Wow! Nothing fancy, but what a value! Our bill was only $17

Havenl't reviewed it lately, glad I had lunch there yesterday. Had the egg salad sammich, and a nice side salad. Both delicious and filling. Eveyone I talk to loves the breakfast's , the only reason I don't eat breakfast there is that I will gain 2 pounds every time. Great omletes as well. The quirky parts are the hours, close at 2 I think but don't try to go at 1:45, be sure to get there by 1:00 or they will be "grumpy". Also the "soup of the day" is really every day, cabbage soup the last 2 or 3 times I ate there, pretty good , but I like a little variety. Do go, it's nice. Bob Ross

This is my favorite breakfast spot in Carteret county. Yes I’ve been to banks grill and it is also good but there is something so special about Grumpy’s! My boyfriend and I come just about every weekend for the homemade breakfast hash, which consists of sliced potatoes, and corned beef, with eggs. It’s perfect. Great prices too.

Great food and atmosphere. Wait staff was friendly. We only had a few minutes wait. They are open from 7-12:45

A breakfast not to miss. Super hash and tasty coffee with a pleasant staff in a safe venue. You really must try it even if you think you don't like hash.
