Inflation and paying people to stay at home has caused another restaurant to close in Morehead. Thanks Joe.. cause you certainly did that!

We love the food here. We take quick get aways and thiscis always on the list. My entire family makes this the first stop every year. Perhaps two stops.

The food is second to none. Timmy was our server and very knowledgeable and professional. The whole establishment has this amazing laidback mindset that matches the beach mindset and is incredible. The seafood is fresh and worth going for alone.

I’m not sure what’s happened with the kitchen in the past year, maybe it’s attributed to the great resignation, but it will be a while before I go back. Ruddy was my go to place in Morehead for seafood but the past two times have been less than stellar. In May, I tried to get tuna and fresh veggies since I was on keto. I was told no problem. I got a plate of three small, dry tuna nuggets and cold broccoli. Last night, I ordered the green tail shrimp platter $22. The shrimp were good but the fries served with it were cold, limp and swimming in grease. I sent them back only to get replacements that looked like what I sent back. I wasn’t offered anything else in its place. Other tables also complained about the fries. I’ve had them numerous times in the past , but last night I was told that’s how they’re done there. My husband’s seafood lasagna was ice cold in the middle. The gumbo is something we look forward to every year after the seafood festival. We had it as an appetizer but it was not as good as it used to be. $75 for dinner between the two of us for cold greasy food. I sure hope things turn around or this place will be Sanitary Part 2.

Reasonable wait time. Started with the chicken nacho appetizer and it was delicious. Waitress wasn’t very friendly but did her job. Food was slow to come out but everything was delicious! Would eat here again when visiting the area!

We went on a Sunday, after tourist season. We had a 10 minute wait so headed to the bar. The bartender was grumpy, short tempered and was so busy gossiping, did not keep up with the customers seated at the bar. We asked about any Sunday/Football game specials and she replied that that was illegal so no. They were out of both beers we asked about and when we asked about others she said, "if it's on the list we have it." I guess other than the ones they were out of, right?! On to the food. The reason we went there was to have the bean dip, which we love. Not today though. It was way overloaded with jalapeños, it was too thin to stay on the chips [which were good], and the flavor was diluted-tasting. Our sandwich, the crab cake sandwich, was the topper. One bite & we knew it was bad. It smelled bad too. We live at the coast and know what bad seafood smells and this was bad. The hostess [?] reassured us it was the spices we were smelling but we know better. The cuke salad with the sandwich was well flavored. Overall, we rely on The Ruddy Duck for a good meal. Not sure what happened that Sunday. Our waiter was very nice about the whole day - best thing that day was his service.

Our women's group came to Emerald Isle for the day for some sun and some fun last Saturday (9/17/22). We decided to leave the beach to go have lunch and I chose Morehead City because I wanted them to see the waterfront area. Years ago my husband and I came here and we had lunch at the RUDDY DUCK. So after looking at the current reviews, the ladies and I came here. There was a wait for seating at lunch time (about 2:30) and we wanted outside seating for seven. Liz told us it would be a 20 minute wait and maybe a little longer for outside but then she said "wait a minute, let me check something". She stepped away and came back with another lady. They checked some things and then she said she could seat us at two tables close together outside. PERFECT!! We stepped outside but came back in to be seated not even 10 minutes later! Seating outside was nice! But the best part was our server, Cameron! He was friendly, professional, courteous, helpful and knew how to make us comfortable. He kept our teas and lemonades refreshed (even talked me into getting one to go ;). Now the food. Both tables had the crab and spinach dip (it was my entree)! DELICIOUS! Two people had the crab cake sandwich and they were disappointed. The in the mixture that was more mixture than crab meat (I love crab cakes but those were definitley NOT the best I have ever had). But the fish platters were a hit! I paid for our meals with Cameron but another young man brought the receipts back. We were ready to leave Cameron a tip but the young man said he was on a break but he could take it because they "tip share". I said I will wait and give it to Cameron ( I had never seen this young man before and he definitley did not serve us). Soon after the manager came to our table and told us the same thing saying that she would make sure that Cameron got the tip. I did not appreciate this at all. First, the young man going to "tell on us" and second the manager coming to our table as if we had no choice in the matter. I would not have minded "sharing the tip" if the young man had been to our tables to serve us (I've been in these scenarios before where our server introduced himself and then said so-an-so will be helping me. And then we saw so-and-so. I just did not think this was professionally handled.) All and all the food was good, the view GREAT, Liz was on the money, and Cameron was AWESOME!!!

We loved everything here but the appetizers were amazing and the best part. I highly recommend the black bean & queso dip and the jalapeño hush puppies for appetizers. They were both so delicious. Since I’m vegetarian, I ordered the chicken and broccoli linguine without chicken. They even gave me extra broccoli and the portion was huge. Everyone else ordered fish dishes and highly enjoyed them (and the portions were all huge). Our server (Cameron I think) was great, helpful and funny. The view on the outdoor seating section was great and we will definitely be back.

We had spicy margaritas and a few appetizers here. The staff was exceptional and the food is consistently good. The flatbread pizza and soup was my choice this go around but I’ve never had anything I didn’t like.

So good! We usually eat here twice when we visit. Recently tried the jalapeno hush puppies which were delicious too! I'm usually a cocktail sauce girl, but at the Ruddy Duck I always try their tartar sauce and ask for the creole mustard sauce.

Season your hamburger meat!! Everything we had was terrible including fried fish. I really don't know why anyone likes this place unless it's tourists or for the view. Whoever the cook(s) is/are, they have no idea how to season food. I could not even finish my burger it was so bad & bland. Fast food is better

Food was amazing! This was my first time in Morehead City and we are at Ruddy Duck Tavern! Had their fried flounder and my husband had the grilled shrimp! DELICIOUS! Totally recommend and the drink was great too! They have such a unique cocktail sauce. Very satisfied with our visit.

Excellent!! We absolutely loved our meal and can’t wait to come back next year. So fresh and something for everyone on the menu. The fried shrimp tacos were out of this world.

Came here with my family for my grandmother birthday dinner and we had spoke to one of the managers that night her was Nicole and she wasn’t very professional AT ALL! She was the rudest and very unattended manager ever I’ve dealt with in my life , I’m a manager myself. Whatever y’all do if y’all can avoid her AT ALL COST.
