I’m passing through for the weekend, a little hotel-pool getaway for the kids, and *THIS* Papa John’s pizza is BY FAR the best Papa John’s pizza I’ve ever had, and hand-to-heart better than all but the very best pizza I’ve had- from OG Naples to NYC.
So good that I walked around giving slices away to the hotel staff because it deserved to be enjoyed, so good I wondered if I had gone a little kooky when I kept raving about it on the phone to my husband, wondering aloud how its even possible to get that much improvement, variation, from the same familiar ingredients I’ve been underwhelmed by for the last 37 years.
So good that we ordered the exact same pizza (1/2 cheese, 1/2 pepp, add the 3-cheese blend) a SECOND night in a row (a second dinner- right on the heels of a “meh” meal at The Madness downtown) and my husband immediately agreed it was the absolute best Papa John’s pizza he’s ever had- attributing it to someone “that cares about what they’re doing, someone that can finesse greatness from mediocrity.” Ok, I said that second bit, he doesnt really talk that way- but he did agree that it had a slightly thinner crust, and a superior overall cook- the perfect balance of a slightly browned, crunchy outer crust and chewy inner layer like you’d expect from a grear NY style pie- just an excellent overall mouth feel.
Whether the three-cheese blend, the perfection application of the Maillard reaction on the slightly browned cheese or a perfect crust-to-sauce interface- I’ve never thought to spend this much time trying to write a nuanced review of any pizza, much less a PJ, but I’m seriously surprised that the reviews of this location are only average. The pizza was excellent, and overcame even the extra sweetness that I turns me off of most PJ pizza.

Papa John's is good, but they aren't where they used to be. They don't contain the right attributes anymore, and the crust is unfortunately bland. I typically like my stuffed crust pizzas but not with bread that tastes like cardboard 😔

To clarify there is no ability for dining in it's take out delivery only. I say this because of the questions below. I walked in I had to greet a worker to get waited on in the middle of taking my order she turned around and walked away to service someone else who it came in to pick up their order also I tried to call and place my order. When dialing the local number that Google gave me and connected me to a call center the lady told me that my order has been placed and for payment she was transferring me directly to my local store. The problem with that is when I was connected with the store they had no knowledge no record know nothing of the order that the lady said she had placed for me. The gift card I had wasn't working. But two days later I walked in the store and was able to use the same gift card the only difference is that I didn't call the number and get connected first. I will probably never go to this location again and it's the only one in my town. And it's mainly because of the service that I received or lack thereof between the call center and in person. If it were my choice I tell you just go elsewhere.

Today is 6/28/2025. I picked up a five-meat pizza. The flavour reminded me of a freezer pizza with freezer burnt sausage pieces. The sausage overpowered most of the other flavours. I was really disappointed in the quality of the pizza. I only ate it because I do not like wasting food. Unless it's sweet baby rays, that stuff is nasty.
While I sat in there waiting for my pizza which was wrong, no Xtra sauce not any sauce at all really. The order was completely wrong all together. If you want to listen to the staff cuss and complain this is your place

My daughter wanted Papa John's for her birthday dinner so we ordered through the app. Apparently on certain days you use doordash now, as a "dash pass subscriber" I could have gotten $0 delivery. After some troubles with a delivery driver,The lady that answered the phone at Papa John's made everything right and even managed to put the biggest smile on my daughters face by writing her a simple "Happy Birthday" on the box! Kindness is everything! I definitely recommend this Papajohns location!

It has been a while since we ate at Papa Johns, but I have to say that the last couple of times that we ordered from here, everything was perfect!
The order was exactly as we placed it, it was ready before the app told us it would be, and the staff inside are friendly and actually seem like they enjoy their job.
Try the shaq-a-roni pizza or the garlic epic stuffed crust, you won't be disappointed. Download the app to earn Papa dough for money off of future orders and to see what deals and coupons they have available.
While the quality of other pizza places in town has fallen to some of the lowest ever, it's good to know we still have at least one place to get fresh quality pizza at a decent price where you don't feel like you wasted your hard earned money.

Ordered delivery for a job we are working in Morganton. The phone number on google takes you to a call center and I could barely understand the person on the other line. The pizza arrived on time and was fantastic. The delivery driver didn’t work for papa John’s, didn’t have my receipt and made up some excuse about not having it. Why does everyone outsource their work now and make people deal with 3 different services to order a dang pizza. Won’t order from here again solely due to the hassle.
