Not sure if we are eating at the same place but I had the beef lo mein and dumplings 2 nights ago and man it reminded me of greasy Chinese food from NYC. My husband who grew up here did say that they got better once the kids grew up and could communicate better with their parents on orders.

I ordered takeout and once I was home, I got a phone call from China 1, I wondered why they'd be calling me. They proceeded to tell me that I'd left my credit card there. Not only were they polite, but kind. I live in Dobson and it was past their closing time when I arrived to get my credit card. They could have used my credit card fraudulently, or even just not called me, but they did the right thing, and that is admirable these days. With that being said, their takeout is the best Chinese in surry county when it comes to flavor, and their prices aren't bad. I do miss their buffet though.

Had the bar. Limited selection. Some food was refrigerator cold. Not what we expected at all. Everything was self serve even flatware napkins and condiments. We had to hunt to find were things were stored. Lady was on speaker phone all during our meal. There was no way you could avoid hearing her conversation it was so loud you could hear the children on the other end if the call. Food was flavorful. But the rest of the experience was lacking. It was exceptionally clean.

I've been getting takeout from China One for years and generally been pretty happy about it but the last few times I've gotten food from there, I've been disappointed. I placed an order a few days ago and all of their prices have gone up by at least a couple of dollars. That's a sign of the times. What really made me mad was that they raised the price on the chicken wings and now instead of getting 8 like you used to, you only get 4. $10 for 1 big wing, 2 medium and 1 pathetic wing is just a plain rip off. Also for some reason, after eating this last meal, my heart wouldn't stop racing for at least a couple of hours. Not sure if it was MSG or something else, but I'll think twice next time I'm craving Chinese food.
