Great food. Very personable service. Thought it was a tourist stop, but I was wrong. Good country folk serving really good food with a good atmosphere.

I came back to the Derby for dinner. This time it was my family and another family. Four kids and four adults. We got there around 6pm on a Friday and it was not packed. It did get a lot more busy between 6 and 7:30. The takeout counter was bustling. Just like last time, we were waited on by Suzie, which is great. She is a real trip and a hard worker. The inside is about that you'd expect. It's an old school restaurant, but it's clean and has decent food and good service. I don't have pictures this time, but there were a number of things that we ate. I went for a more southern type dinner, the Friday special. Country style steak with brown gravy, fried okra, pickled beets, and hush puppies. To be honest, the beets and okra stuff is canned or frozen and are about what you'd expect. The hush puppies are very good, nice and crispy. The country steak was fine, just needed some salt. Other things my family ate, plain cheeseburger and fries, chicken tenders and fries, and the Friday all you can eat flounder. I did try the flounder and it was pretty good. This place is worth trying, just know what to expect

Quiet Friday morning .. Service was superb.. Coffee was strong and plentiful.. Food was delicious and fairly priced. Welcome to the Mountains Ambiance.. Lots of old pictures but don't think I saw one of Andy which was slightly disappointing..

They had delicious southern comfort food and our waitress was so nice! I had the four-veggie platter and my son had the ultimate grilled cheese which he absolutely loved. They also have Cheerwine! Bonus! We will definitely be back.2/28/24Still a family favorite! We like to come here to celebrate big events. Today I got an omelet and tomatoes & Macaroni and my son had the Philly cheese steak Sub. We both had chocolate pie for dessert! Delicious!!

The service was ok. The coffee was ok. Packaged creamer was not. We both had the Derby special with eggs. The so call butter was nasty. Sausage patties were dry and mealy. The bacon was tasty but overcooked. So I would pass on breakfast for sure here.

Derby dressing was good, and different. Probably many comments about it. Food is middle of the road.

The bacon was like rubber, the grits had no seasoning at all, and the eggs were like plastic. Their quality has went way downhill!

The food and service are both good. It’s friendly. It’s an old building and could use a little remodeling but otherwise it’s great! Good prices.Dietary restrictions: They have a lot of vegetables and it’s easy to order gluten free and fodmap free.

This restaurant has been around since 1937 and I can see why. It's home-cooked food. Think comfort foods your mother or grandma made while you were growing up. The person I was with is a picky eater and was picking off my plate after he stuffed himself from his food which is one of the highest praises I can give. The portions are very generous and there's a good selection of things to choose from. We dined here twice and both times the service was very excellent. Most of the people here are regulars and it reminds me of an old diner.
