Rare Bird truly is that rare bird. It's in the details. The way the logo in the center of the menu on the wall above the coffee bar looks immaculately designed by computer yet is unmistakenly and painstakingly hand drawn. The way that when you shut the door behind you you feel as if you've stepped out of Murphy NC and into any down town big city coffee shop; taking an instant dimensional trip as if being transported through a magic wardrobe into a land of talking animals and Turkish delight. Yet the smell of essential oils and polished wood is unmistakenly Appalachian. All these small touches combined with the fact that the coffee and everything else they serve is amazing, along with top tier customer service and even used vinyl and assorted handmade gifts thrown in make this place the only proper coffee shop in the tri state area and a uniquely chill spot, complete with couches in the rear, an old fashioned sink in the sparkling clean restroom and super chill low key folk music playing on a quality soundsystem. The last two days I have had off from work. It has been rainy. Both times I went in and Olivia and Rebekah made my day with their amazing barista skillz, cute sweaters and magneticaly mischievous grins.Thank you to everyone who makes this place so great. If you haven't checked it out you're missing out.

I needed some ice water. I was ready to buy ice water. what I wanted when I went through the drive-thru was a large cup of ice with water in it. we made that very clear. we were prepared to pay whatever price it was to have two large ice waters. when we got to the door. they wanted to sell us two small bottles of water in a plastic bottle.
we said oh no we would like some in a cup. thank you. we would like a cup of ice, a large cup of ice and we were very polite.
until the girl said I don't know what to do about that. I can't do that. we don't do that. we don't sell ice water. we don't have any cups
I said well you've got cups for the tea. you could charge us for a tea and give us a cup of water. anyway, suffice to say we won't be trying to buy a cup of ice water to keep us hydrated while we work in our workshop. that's quite hot. I found ice water at another place. we won't bother you again

This place has absolutely delicious coffee drinks. I was impressed with the cozy and quaint store with unique gift items and handmade soaps and various other things. Its atmosphere is perfect and there are little corners to sit and drink your coffee or tables right up front. The staff was courteous and friendly.

We love coming here for a coffee and muffin. Great to sip and browse the store, and the wonderful selection of things. Muffins are great, but I do wish they had a better selection of desserts (cake or something). Also it is just counter service, it it was table service it would be perfect.

I honestly can't do this place justice with my review! The owners and staff are so kind, everything from their coffee to their sweets, to their merchandise is PERFECT! Within my first 2 to 3 visits, the staff knew my voice AND regular order BY HEART! Love this place!!! ❤️❤️❤️

I am a coffee lover and to get good coffee I do roast my own coffee beans. Do most coffees bought somewhere else are somewhat disappointing to me. However, the coffee at Rare Bird is pretty good.

Such a neat shop. A couple walked in and I overhear them ask where the birds are! Haha. I popped in while doing laundry down the road. Pleasant chai tea, and I got to try all donut flavors, my favorite being the plain! I also left with a cute butterfly door mat, suits my caravan well.
