Tale of the Whale

Tremendous on all accounts!… fantastic cocktails, delicious food, superior service, and an amazing view. I have never enjoyed waiting for a table more!…sitting outside under the gazebo on the deck that stretches into the sound, wonderful outside bar (try the Chocolate Martini!), and Yacht Rock over the speakers. We could have stayed out there all night and been content. However, I would be remiss if I didn’t say how great the food was inside, and the service was impeccable. (Richard was our waiter, and he is a GEM! Excellent service like he extended to our group is a lost art.) Can’t wait to see you again next year!

Great service by Mary after very long wait for seating. Food was generously portioned, but lacked taste and freshness. I was disappointed on this visit for the first time, after many visits there over 40 years.

Amazing food. The seafood and the steak were exceptional. Very nice atmosphere. Quality service and was really quick to get our food. Definitely going back. So many things on the menu to try!

Amazing food. Great service. Our favorite spot to eat! We were a little skeptical about waiting the 2 hours for a table. But! So glad we did. Richard is a fantastic server! The crab cakes and desserts were phenomenal

Always busy but for a reason! The wait was worth it and the drink we had on the docks were as well. Amazing crab and my partner said the shrimp was delicious! Our waitress was amazing! I love all the hospitality of Southern charm and just the friendliness of everyone in the area. We will be back! Money well spent!

The food and service and atmosphere is beyond excellent! I have been several times and have never been disappointed. We were there a week or so ago and accidentally left my credit card there the night before and didn’t realize it until I was over 200 miles away. I called and spoke to a very nice man (my hero) who went out of his way to mail my card back to me. I was so glad to get it back! Please check it out, this restaurant will be a highlight of your vacation!

Great service and great food, highly recomend

I've been going to the Outer Banks for almost 60 years and for some reason I never tried this place. It's excellent. One of the few places I can wholeheartedly recommend in the Kitty Hawk to Nags Head area. Early bird discount (20% off, 5-6pm). My Martini was very delicious. Fried oyster appetizer scrumptious (especially good cocktail sauce). Dinner special stuffed whole lobster with crab meat (amazing). Mashed potatoes and broccoli were very delicious and I would say the broccoli is the best I've ever had in a restaurant. Mini loaf of white bread with whipped butter (bread was hot and the butter was soft and chilled). Very tasty. Popular spot, especially during the early bird hours. We got immediate seating at the bar area. Can be a little loud. Lighting could be a little dimmed for more mood. Staff was pleasant and professional. Lemon blueberry cake had great flavor (but a little dry). Ho ho ding dong cake will knock your socks off!

Amazing xperience! Be prepped to wait for a table, at least an hour or so, but food is worth it. The shrimp and lobster bisque and hersey chocolate cake were great. Our whole party loved the food. Service at the table was quick and she was very attentive. There is plenty of places to wait and sit including an outside bar, but you will be waiting. They start taking names at 4:30pm for seating and then seating at 5pm when they open, there was a line out the door when we went at 5:15pm. I would still wait the 1 hour and 20 mins for the food though, it was really good and affordable considering the portion and taste!
