I believe this place is closed for good. Just tried to check it out and it said "For Lease" on the window.
Atmosphere can kill a meal. Until, our recent visit, we had considered LaRosa one of our favorites and dependable. Unfortunately, parents and a small child known to the owner turned the restaurant into the child's playground. Toddler was allowed to run and crawl among tables, screech loudly and cry. The father at one time was tossing the child in the air as if outside at a playground. I remarked to the father that it was a restaurant and not a playground and he was disturbing our meal. He returned to his table momentarily and then came to our table and sarcastically and aggressively said, "I hope you have a nice meal" and continued to berate us. After he returned to the table and child was screaming, he went outside and the wife apparently asked that their meal be boxed so they could leave. As they prepared to pay and leave, the owner at the register was heard assuring them they were welcome anytime. As the father left, he returned to our table, called my husband a name and invited him outside to settle the issue. He of course declined. The owner never acknowledged any of the behavior and as we finished, she came to ask if we wanted dessert or coffee, we declined, paid and left. No apologies, no concerns expressed about the customer's aggression or that our dinner with friends was spoiled.
We split a appetizer of calamari which was like eating cross sections of a bicycle innertube. Either it was poor quality squid or had been in the freezer too long. For an entree I had the rigatoni portobello which consisted of five rigatoni and some cream sauce. It was OK but not very filling (total of 5 rigatoni). No pasta was included which surprised me. I took 30 minutes to get our entrees after the appetizers and on top of that, the waitress had major attitude. Not someplace I will return to.
The menu feels like being in a small Italian restaurant in Italy. The atmosphere is also very similar to what I experienced in Italy. The service was was good and well paced, no rushing. The food tasted good. I wanted the veal to be browned a little. Calamari was good. Italian trio was good. Everyone had a good dinner and it tasted home made. I wish all the seats had padding.
I am confused by the great reviews. This was one of the worst places/meals I’ve had in a long time. The atmosphere is horrible, starting the minute you walk in to the dollar store plastic disposal tablecloths. Starting bread awful, pasta fagoli soup was barely edible - like canned soup watered down. My fettucine alfredo was so runny, was like milk - could have poured it in a glass to drink. Chicken parm was like a bad frozen cutlet, sauce terrible, etc. Never thought I would say Olive Garden is 100 times better - and that is sayin something.
It was a good place to unwind I wish it was a little more space
It was our anniversary-we didn’t mention this to wait staff-food was delicious and brought out timely. We were there right at 5-within an hour the restaurant was full. Great experience! We will def be back!
My first time dining here. We arrived at 6:30 pm and were promptly seated, drink orders taken at once. Atmosphere is charming and a nice home style feel. Service was spot on-time perfect, the staff friendly and attentive. The food was excellent and fresh and hot. My appetizer was a pasta soup that was very flavorful and yummy. I had my typical go to at any Italian restaurant (Spaghetti and meatballs) and was not disappointed. The sauce perfectly balanced, the meatballs fresh, the spaghetti a perfect al dente . My friend had a sampler of Lasagna, chicken parmesan and fettuccini alfredo. Also well made, hot and fresh. This was an awesome dining experience and the owner greeted us and was very friendly. The prices are reasonable in this era...Highly recommend!
If there is a perfect restaurant experience, this is it. Seated as we entered, drinks we provided quick. The pace for everything else was perfect. Food was delicious and prices reasonable. Clearly one of New Bern’s secrets. Otherwise there would be a line at the door to get in. You enjoy homemade Italian food: this place is for you.
It a nice place, good music, good drinks...the place is not as big that the reason for the 4 out of 5 star's
Restaurantji Recommends
Service was great and the food was as authentic as I’ve had in North Carolina. Sauce was amazing and the fettuccine was the best. Also recommend the stuffed mushrooms! Must stop for anyone
Will never grace this place with my presence again. Telling everyone I know how RUDE the owner was to our table. We all have bad days, but no comparison to hers.
We were not expecting an authentic Italian restaurant in a non-de script strip mall out side New Bern extensive menu at economical price point, given the quality this place will not disappoint!
If you want authentic Italian food this is the place. If we are going to dine Italian this is the only place to go in new Bern. My family has made this the go to place. I don’t believe there is anything on the menu that we haven’t tried. pasta, ravioli, lasagna, veal and sea food. For appetizers Try the stuffed mushrooms and the mussels. Beside great food excellent service. Friendly atmosphere. Your host, Angela will make you feel like family. Oh I forgot to mention great drink, nice wine list and spumoni to die for.
Great bar and fabulous authentic food. Nice staff and 100% Health Department Rating. Good wine choices.
