I go to Bayleaf frequently. They have very good food and it always comes out fresh and hot. Some people complain about waiting too long for their food but they don't understand that one or more dishes for their party might need to marinate before cooking, or a longer cook time. If your food is hot and delicious then you got great service. Tip accordingly.

We've lived in New Bern for years and tried most of the downtown restaurants. I wish we had found Bay Leaf sooner! Bay Leaf serves authentic Indian cuisine for any palette (spice-lover or not). I was especially impressed with how well they prepared the lamb, it practically melts in your mouth. The sauces are also delicious. The staff is very friendly and the price---SUPER reasonable compared to some of the downtown establishments. I highly recommend taking a date, spouse, or family--even kids since you can get the food 'mild.'
Parking: If you know anything about New Bern, street parking is pretty easy to find and it's free.
Wheelchair accessibility: The restaurant is even with the sidewalk. You can make your way into the sheltered space in front of the restaurant and right through the front door without any steps.

5/5 worth it Indian cuisine!!! Very authentic and great family staff, but if you want medium, specify 2/10. 5/10 spice level still hurts!

This gem is tucked away in a hidden spot and is worth the find. No nonsense quick service in true Indian fashion, and delicious food. The fish curry is so tender and flavorful I can't stop ordering it.

Decent food at an affordable price, with less than normal portion sizes. They play Indian music and are indeed from India, so if you want food that is genuinely spicy, be sure to ask for extra hot or extra hot plus. They have an employee who is terse and unwelcoming, and also racist, so that’s a detractor.

The food was good but the service from the lady in charge was flat out rude. Everyone else was very nice.
I have been there twice and I'm fairly new to Indian food but everything about this restaurant is wonderful. The food is excellent. I absolutely look forward to my next trip and a new dish to try!

Love this delicious Indian restaurant. While they no longer have a buffet their menu does not disappoint. We had meat samosa, onion and chickpea flower fried bites with a trio of tasty sauces in varying degrees of heat. For our main we had tandoori chicken with rice, lamb korma with rice and garlic naan to round out the meal. As with most Indian dining experiences we have had, there was an abundance of food with more than could be finished in one sitting. If you like Indian and want a place to dine in with great service a visit to Bay Leaf restaurant should definitely be a go to spot.
