The food was great but the service and professionalism from the bartender Hank was phenomenal! I have been to countless restaurants and bars that specialize in bourbon but they all fall short for one common reason. They don’t have Hank. I’m just down here in New Bern visiting family and I will always make it a priority to stop in Poppy’s Bites and Barrels every time I am back in town.

absolutely loved my experience at Bites & Barrels! We sat at the bar at which our server, Hank provided a warm welcome.I like bourbon and discovered that this place has their own private select casks available !!!! from 3 big brands!!!Needless to say, i was blown away by this fact alone.Hank was able to masterfully help me taste bourbon and provided ample information and discussion on his knowledge.Food was really good too and my wife's cocktail, on point. Will be thinking of that Makers for a long time... cheers! ?

Good food and cocktails. Had one of the best salads ever... a special mix of greens, roasted vegetables and grains which I choose to top with mahi. Street tacos were also good. Will definitely return.

In the mood for a burger, my wife and I went to Poppy's Bites and Barrels. It was about a 15-20 minute wait so we had a beer at the bar. After looking over the menu, our waiter Cody took our order. Our appetizer arrived quickly but due to an issue in the kitchen, our dinner took considerably longer to arrive. He apologized profusely and offered a dessert on him to show his regrets on the slow arrival of dinner. That was the only downside to the dinner this evening, otherwise the food was very good. I had the Napalm Burger and my wife had fish tacos. Both were very satisfying and filling. The bar is very well stocked and offer some very exceptional bourbons.

Absolutely loved our dining experience here. The appetizers, drinks, and main courses were all amazing. We got the loaded pretzel and it did not disappoint. They have a really nice bourbon selection. Overall I would highly recommend.Dietary restrictions: They have nice gluten intolerant options.

A recent review states the founder of the restaurant was in the military and the restaurant is decorated based on his service - that is not correct. The PREVIOUS restaurant (different name) was owned by the current owner and others - whom were in the military. The restaurant is no longer co-owned by those people. The current owner is supportive of the military, but named the restaurant after his grandfather's service, not his own, at least to my understanding. Someone please correct me if I am wrong.

This was by far the best food we have had in New Bern since we’ve been living here the last couple of years. We came on a Sunday afternoon for lunch. The wait before we were seated was about 30 minutes, but absolutely worth it.Service was good. Restaurant is Veteran/armed forces themed based on the founder of the restaurant and his service. One of the TVs in the bar area was rotating cute animal videos (the others were on sports, of course). It was actually refreshing to be in a bar and have something cute or funny on one of the TVs.We were seated at a high top table in the bar area and the door to the restaurant kept blowing very cold wind in so we were freezing at our table which is really the only reason for 4 stars for atmosphere.I highly recommend Poppy’s for your downtown New Bern dining!Parking: Street parking.

It's OK. Restaurant was recommended to me by local shop employees who raved about the salads. Took forever for our salads to come. Maybe they were growing the lettuce in the back? It wasn't super busy. Salad was a salad. Also ordered truffle fries. I've had better. They were good, crispy, but weren't hot when they arrived.Vegetarian options: Black bean burger and 3 salad options.
