This is my favorite restaurant downtown New Bern. I almost said my favorite seafood restaurant but since seafood is my favorite type of food, it can be considered my favorite restaurant. I have eaten at MJ's a number of times and so far I've not been disappointed. During the busiest hours it can be loud and feel cramped inside but when I have been here in those conditions, I was able to find a table outside on the side walk. Eating out there kind of feels like a small bier garden vibe in Europe. I can't wait to go back. My favorite time to eat there is lunch.

I never thought I would leave a bad review! This time I need to do this because the Owner was very rude!! We been going to MJ Grill for 5 plus years! We willing to drive an hour for great seafood! We ordered take out and arrived home which we done this many times except for this time the fried calamari two orders were over cooked. I called using video relay because we are Deaf. I explained the problem and asked for refund. The owner did not give a solution but got nasty (that is what the sign language relay followed what the owner was saying) no refund, and said Do Not Come Back! Hung up on the relay! The relay called back and they hung up again! No solution, no refund, no offers of credit.

This place was great! Service was top notch. Atmosphere was great. I had the blackened grouper wrap and it was 10/10, will definitely order again. My husband had the shrimp and oyster basket and for $19 he felt it was a little scant. He didn’t think there weren’t enough shrimp or oysters for the price. I didn’t agree or disagree. Times have changed, the prices for everything are high. It would’ve been far too little bang for the buck a 3-4 years ago. I felt like the food to price ratio was somewhat expected for the type of restaurant at this time (though I will say my wrap was big enough to make two meals out of). However, just like my wrap, what came with the basket was delicious and he said everything was fried to perfection. It’s not an all you can eat buffet. It’s a nice casual restaurant on the coast. Prices reflect that. I think it’s 100% worth the visit.

Stopped in for a light meal while walking down town. The service was amazing, food was delicious, and drinks were the bomb! We had the mini crab cakes and grouper fillets appetizer. We would definitely come back again for dinner!

Absolutely delicious menu. Never a deviation. The oysters and shrimp and grits were amazing and so were all the other things I've had.
What a local gem! We dropped in for Sunday supper and met a fun group of locals. The bar staff was so helpful with food and beverage!
