They sell rotten mushy fish!!!. They must be soaking it in something so it looks fine until you get it home to clean it and it falls apart. Smell it and check it for firmness if you dare venture there to buy seafood. They put soft mushy salmon in zip lock bags on top of the ice with the other fish. They don't want you to touch it or test for firmness because you'd find its mushy. I was accused of "destroying" their fish for testing a very small 1inch portion of the filet proving it it was soft and falling apart. Earlier I'd purchased a small $8 salmon filet which proved to be mushy and falling apart when preparing it at home. I went back to this business for exchange or refund. I never imagined I'd be met with such disdain and hatred.The owner's daughter, or now owner, actually threatened to come around the counter and kick my a$$ for proving their salmon was mushy. She refused to give me a refund for the mushy salmon that was falling apart and refused to give me back the mushy filet I bought and that I paid for. Her BD or spouse who sold me the fish was quiet and refused to weigh the fish to prove its was the same fish that I had bought from him 20 minutes earlier. I said to him, you know this is the fish I bought from you and you're not going to say anything. She angrily said Oh just because he's black and youre black he's supposed to take up for you? I said no because it would be the right (honest) thing to do. She proceeded to call me a racist. Issues. He sat there as if he enjoyed seeing her make wild accusations that I went home and bought back some mushy fish from my freezer within 20 minutes. I paid only $8 for that salmon filet but according to her I did all of that to trick them. Insulting. Eight dollars, $8. Smh. I also bought shrimp and scallops on the same receipt which seemed fine and I didnt bring those back for a refund but left them home. I very reluctantly and regrettably called the police only to be told if I go back there I would be trespassing. Now I'm the criminal and as if I'd ever patronize them again. Lesson learned. Unfortunately, this is the world we live in. TMHs vengeance is greater than my own. No refund, no exchange, refused to give me back the mushy $8 filet back that which was afterall, my paid for property. Nothing. Violated. I hope that stolen $8 serves them well. Im a 65 y/o, 10 year Army vet, retired registered nurse and real estate broker, so swindling for a fish filet doesn't fit my forte.I will always drive those extra miles to go to B&Js Seafood in James City where they are fair and aim to satisfy customers. BJs wont make up wild unfounded baseless stereotypical accusations or threaten you. Everybody I've talked to said nobody who's somebody goes to Tryon Seafood anymore because they have nasty dispositions, some even said racist and their seafood is bad. Wish I'd known this. This incident really, really messed up my plans for lunch and my entire day.

Attached to the String Ray Cafe only separated by a kitchen. So you can make one stop for fresh seafood, take it home raw or have it cooked. Fresh fish, picked crab, and shrimp were on display. How fortunate New Bern is to have this seafood market with reasonable prices and friendly service. Takes EBT payment.

I ordered two pounds of fillet flounder, I should have checked it before I left the store. Got the fish home and took it out the bag. It was rotten! The flesh of the fish was brown. Just terrible! I took it back and they refunded my money. Please check your fish before leaving the store!
Great fresh seafood. When they sell you jumbo shrimp it really is jumbo shrimp with no small or medium shrimp for fillers.

If you shop here check the scales bf paying bc you will not get a receipt to question the price.It was our first time going. Nice place and the fish we were looking to purchase (blue fish) was just getting off the boat. So we waited for 15 mins or so while they unloaded. Sign said $1.50 a lb. So we asked for 20lbs. Where I went to school bf taxes that's $30. However, I get it. You're busy working, it's Monday. The gentleman weighing the fish rings it up at $2.99 a lb and puts close to 16 lbs in our cooler. Total is like $47 We question the price bc the sign said differently. So he weighs the remaining fish to add up to the 20 lb order and changes price to $1.50 on the scale. It totals $8 and sum chg. So the total plus tax is $52.50. I'm puzzled by the total but since there were a few people waiting, I pay. Im standing there with the cooler of fish and the guy ask whats wrong. I said you didn't correct the price. Your sign said $1.50 a lb. I got 20 lbs with tax it should be arnd $35. He says I fixed the price..I took off the $8 and fixed it all. But when I still questioned it he acted like he couldn't be bothered. Neededless to say, I was happy finding a local fish market at reasonable prices but bc of him I do not think I will be back. Sign says one price but you still end up paying more. I believe I paid abt $2.50 a lb. $1 more then I should have.

We have gotten shrimp and scallops from them twice. Great customer service, seafood was fresh and you have the option to get some of your seafood already cleaned and ready to cook. Its clean inside and they also have a section where they cook there too. You can call ahead and an order your fresh seafood to be cleaned and ready for you to pick up as well.
