***WARNING*** This is not a place you want to eat at. Only giving one star because our waitress was pleasant. I personally wouldn’t even stop here for a beer due to the bartenders attitude but if you can get past that it would be a cool spot to drink on the lake.
I repeat… this is not a place you should feel comfortable eating at…. The 5 star reviews for this places food are beyond inaccurate…. I warned you. ?

Went in here for a few beers singer came on at 10 so we ended up stopping was a great night until the bar tab appeared. 11 dollars a beer. 12 dollars for small wine. 16 dollars for a baileys - need a sign on the door warning of the high prices! 3 of us ran up a 380 dollar tab in 4 hrs! We are also convinced he added a few drinks to the tab.
Its not the best area of town so why the highest prices in town?
Greedy springs to mind.

I’ve come here 2-3 times before when visiting the lake but after this last time I won’t be back. Two dishes in the group came with side salads and the waitress asked what dressing we wanted, then after everyone ordered, she told us to go make our salads whenever we wanted. The bill came and we see we’ve been charged $7 for each salad in addition to the $17 entree. When we questioned it she lied and said we were given a choice between side salad and make your own and we chose to make our own. She went back to ask someone and they only knocked $2 off each salad so we both had to pay $5 for salads that were supposed to be included with the meal. I guess this is how they make their $ in the off season after Labor Day, trapping customers into paying for salads that were supposed to be free. Watch out for waitresses gaslighting you about what you “chose.” Outdoor area is also nasty, old patio furniture that is not restaurant grade that needs to be thrown out, covered in bugs. A family of stray cats was also running around, would even go under your table looking for scraps. The host also only set up the tables in front of the building and not by the railing with the best view of the lake. We asked to move and the waitress did clean off a table by the water. The food wasn’t good, the macaroni had a bad taste and was inedible. The chicken tenders were subpar.

They are now closed for lunch on Saturdays which is normally our favorite time to go.
The food over the years has gotten worse, I wish they would bring back some healthier food options.

If you're looking for a great spot to enjoy some delicious food by the water, Scallywag's Bar and Grill in New London, North Carolina is an excellent choice. Located directly on Badin Lake, this venue offers the perfect blend of good food, great atmosphere, and excellent service.
One of the standout features of Scallywag's is its accessibility. Whether you're arriving by car or boat, you'll find it easy to get to this lakeside gem. The ability to dock your boat and step right into the restaurant adds a unique touch that many other venues simply can't offer.
The food at Scallywag's is consistently praised for its quality. From hearty burgers to fresh seafood, there's something on the menu for everyone. The portions are generous, making it a great value for the price. Plus, the atmosphere is lively and inviting, with live music on Saturday nights adding to the fun.
Overall, Scallywag's Bar and Grill is more than just a place to eat; it's a destination. Whether you're looking to relax with friends over a cold drink, enjoy a meal with family, or listen to some great live music, this venue has it all. Highly recommended for anyone in the area!

Your main internet page does not say you are closed for 2 hrs 3 to 5. One if the waitresses was rude. I drove almost an hour to get there to give a small birthday dinner. You had many people show up during the 15 mins I was there in the parking lot. But that's okay, I don't have to come back. Thank your waitresses.

A bunch of us American legion members from Indian Trail drove up to the bar on Friday. Based on the Google review it was supposed
to be opened at three pm. We arrived at 330pm After an hour and 10 minute drive. We entered the patio area and found the doors locked. A young lady comes to the door and not so nicely said we don't open til 4pm. Offer us a cool drink or a seat while we wait? Nope just closed the door and pointed at the sign. So I went back to the many web pages covering the place and as far as Fridays go I have no idea when they actually open. One site says Fridays at three, their own site says Fridays at 5 and the waitress says 4. So ok management which time is correct? We are taking our travel trip which we do every other Friday some where else in the future!!
Was really looking forward to trying it out when we were out on the boat yesterday, which was a Saturday and they were closed from 3-5 because it was too hot in the kitchen. We were very disappointed.
Beautiful location on the lake! Great food and fun karaoke!!
