Western Steer Reviews
Great food, amazing service!
Our family of three went today for an early Mother's Day lunch. My husband loves their buffet and I got the special which was a T - Bone steak meal.
I can't say enough about our waitress RUTHIE! Very polite and sweet, made sure everything was perfect. She was not only like that with us but all of the tables she was waiting on.
If you like good food and attentive staff, try visiting WESTERN STEER in Newton. I hope Ruthie is there to wait on you!! 😃
We ate from the bar. Food was overall very good. We came just before closing, so nothing much was added. We were told this before we paid. Salad bar is large & varied. Good selection of fruits, meats & vegetables. A little pricey for what we normally pay, but happy with what we had. I probably won’t go back because of the extra charge for credit card use.

Western Steer is a cozy restaurant that serves up comfort foods with a nostalgic touch. With 45 years of experience, the buffet offers a variety of tasty options, including a salad bar and homestyle favorites like cornbread stuffing. The atmosphere remains warm and inviting, with old music from the 1940s playing in the background. However, some recent reviews indicate that the quality of food has declined, noting tough and flavorless steak, hard yeast rolls, and overcooked Hamburger Steak. Some customers mentioned that the food did not seem fresh, with comments about the buffet being picked over and the weekend prices being too high.
On a positive note, the fried chicken and desserts like chocolate mousse cake and apple pie have received praise for being the best parts of the meal. While the service has been described as excellent, there have been concerns about the cleanliness of the bathrooms and unexpected charges on the bill. Despite these criticisms, Western Steer continues to attract customers looking for a down-home dining experience.
