Used to be great; I’ve traveled to Shagger Jacks over a dozen time and never had an issue in the past.
Picked up a to go order; while I waited ordered a rum runner drink. They didn’t have the ingredients to make the drink and that part is okay I’m not hard to please just rum and juice will work for me. The bartender used a near empty bottle of light rum that didn’t have enough left in the bottle for both drinks so she short poured and still had a drop in the bottle to go back on the shelf. Charged for a $12 “rum punch” that did not have a full shot of alcohol. On the menu majority of their mixed drinks are only $8.
The salad was okay but small and the added chicken wasn’t cooked properly so I didn’t consume.
Sadly I will not be returning to what once was my favorite restaurant on Oak Island.

This place, reminds me of a traditional pub. Everything is old and dated in a good way. My wife and I went there today for lunch. Our waitress was nice and attentive.
My wife ordered the firecracker shrimp, and I ordered the fish and chip sandwich. My fish was good fried perfectly, I wasn’t well about the fries that came with. It reminded me of McDonald’s leftover fries that have been in a bag.. My wife didn’t like her food at all the waitress took it off the bill, which was very nice of her. I would give this place a second chance for sure!

We took a large group ... 25 went at 5:00, for dinner All the food came out together, hot and perfect. Service staff got it all right and were knowledgeable about the menu. Excellent!!!!

If there were a 6 star rating I’d rate this place 6+? Yeah I would. Our party of 4 adults, and a 16 month, were promptly seated (qualifier, we arrived at about 4:45😊). The atmosphere was laid back and beach’y and the server was cherry & very attentive but not bothersome. The prices were reasonable as was the serving size. After our orders were taken they were served in fairly short order and all thought the meal was excellent. As for the 16 month old, she gobbled up the shrimp off her grandmother’s plate and frys off her mom’s (I think she loved it too) I happen to love shrimp & grits, if it is on the menu invariably that will be my order and I can say that mine was the BEST I have ever had and not by a nose either. It was definitely a bell ringer! While you are in the South Port/Oak Island area don’t pass up Shagger Jacks, well worth the drive.
