We had an amazing dinner. We had a party of 9 . Everyone was extremely pleased with their food. Ordered the sampler for an appetizer. I had the stewed chicken for my entree. Was incredibly flavorful and had me wanting to clean my plate. My finance got the steak. It was perfectly cooked and done a way that tasted like it was probably sous vede. One of the best steaks I have had the pleasure of tasting. The coleslaw and plantains were great too. Can’t wait to go back. Next time I want to try the snapper. Everyone was very pleased by their food and experience at the sugar shack.

Went 9/10/24 was seated immediately but had to wait five minutes to even get a drink order. They didn't have coconut shrimp so I ordered the steak that comes with rice and beans and I asked for steamed veggies. Upon receiving my food I was told rice was not included even though it says it is on the menu. Had to flag down server for one refill. As we were leaving another customer pointed out a dead huge roach underneath my seat.. 130 dollars for bland food and minimal customer service. Id recommend taking the steak to go with side of fries
Parking: Had to park next to the grease trap

I ate here for my first time for lunch while on vacation and I viewed their website and I was really excited. As someone who is also Jamacian and is very familiar with the food ofc…I was highly disappointed. I tried to give it the benefit of the doubt but I looked over the menu and it wasn’t promising. They were missing key foods that Jamacia is known for (ox tail, ackee and salt fish, spice bun, etc) but their best and well known food was their steak and ribs?? I’m not really sure if they had steamed cabbage? But they had “fresh veggies”??? Before ordering our food we were told none of their food is spicy but well marinated/seasoned so I figured they used a mild jerk marinade. I still tried their “jerk” chicken but it was super sweet? There was also a syrup like sauce at the table which is apparently what is used to cook the chicken. The rice and peas was ok but it was missing the all spice and coconut which really makes the rice. The only thing that was good was the beef patty. It was just disappointing, upsetting, and embarrassing because the culture was there through the atmosphere but then it was watered down by the food. The food wasn’t even made right. I’m not really sure how this place has almost five stars and can call this place a Jamaican restaurant.

Way too many 5 star reviews that are rather misleading. Food was too bland to be considered Jamaican, I'd be insulted if I were a native. Service was rude, forgot several things, and as it was our first time there, some things were explained and others were not. Might be nice to know what that little piece of spiced bread was, rather than a drop and go. Homemade sauce is definitely just maple syrup. Sangria tastes like Welch's grape juice.
Paid way too much for what it was. Will not be returning.

Good wasn’t like it used to be. Jerk chicken was hardly flavorful. The beef patty was wonderful. Everything we ordered the server suggested was “too much food for two”. Which we thought was odd considering he should be upselling us. We wanted to try a little of everything.

There is NOTHING Jamaican about this restaurant. The food is definitely not authentic Caribbean! The rice and beans is just regular rice with a FEW red beans in it. They don’t offer ox tails on the regular menu or plantains. The beef patty was not made in house. The brown stewed chicken had no gravy at all. This place was a total fake! Even down to the decor and music!

I was stoked when my wife told me our group had decided to eat here. I had driven by the place several times before and seen the crowd. Very disappointed to say the least. Food was unremarkable. Server messed up a couple orders in our group of 6 adults and kids. Cost was waaay too high for the level and quality of their food and service. $75 just for me and wife for basic meal with soda, no dessert. Disappointed.

Everything was good except for the steak , a lot of unchewable tendons but everything else was cooked to perfection, homemade sauce is to die for. A must visit spot everytime we visit ocean isles

An absolute stop for our family every summer! Whether we stay in Ocean Isle or Oak Island, we’re making a trip to the Sugar Shack. Love bringing my little one here just like my mama brought me there for the first time!💜🇯🇲

We absolutely loved the jerk chicken wings!! They had the perfect crunchy exterior with the most juicy interior. The sangria tasted super fresh, perfect for summer. Our waitress was very personable and prompt. The ribs and jerk bites were alright, lacking on flavor tbh?. The jerk sauce was insane, so delicious! Would definitely recommend. Coleslaw is good too, nice crunch.

My husband and I was on visit to Ocean Isle for our 9th anniversary. We Google restaurants and Sugar Shack came up with great reviews. I had never been to a Jamican restaurant, so I was excited when the reviews spoke about how authentic it was. We got there early because many of the reviews talked about it being packed and needing reservations just to get in. We were able to get a table with no problem. Our server was attentive, prompt and even gave recommendations since it was our first visit. My husband got the ribs, which is one of the things they are know for, and I got jerk chicken. The food arrived quickly, meat was tender, falling off the bone, and the portions were plentiful but the food lack flavor. It was so bland to be jamican food. I added salt and pepper and that helped some, but the flavor was not just not there. The total was a little over $75 for two entrées, two sweet teas, and an appetizer. All in all I would not return. If you are looking for authentic jamican food, this is not it.
