Wonderful meal. Highly recommend. Beet Salad With Mixed Greens, Red Onion, Avocado, Toasted
House Made Blue Cheese Dressing
Raw Local Oysters On The Half Shell
Fried Green Tomatoes Topped With Shrimp Remoulade
Locally caught Tilefish over risotto with a passion fruit beurre blanc sauce.
We loved our meal and drinks. Great menu with fresh, local offerings.
We sat outside at the picnic tables so we could bring our dog. They let us order inside and eat outside from to go boxes. Full menu was available to us. The service was fantastic and everyone was so friendly.

We always make it to the Flying Melon when we visit so this time was no exception. Even though we walked in with a party of six with no notice, they accommodated us rather quickly. Not sure if this would happen on a busy evening. Adam was pleasant and attentive, the food is always delicious and fresh. Overall, another wonderful evening. $$$
Out of all the restaurants on the island, this was the rudest. I felt like I was back in NYC. They didn’t even acknowledge my existence. All I was trying to do was get a drink. Every other place on the island is with it! This was not!!!! Go somewhere else. It ruins the vibe of the island.
Five women with no problem laying out the bucks. The baked oysters and caper blue fish appetizers were spectacular. When we all decided on the scallops for the entre, we were all terribly disappointed. They were extra salty and flavor was not what a scallop should taste like. Scallops are usually sweet and succulent. Unfortunately our criticism was blown off. The cream brulee was like a soup and was also a big disappointment.Been here many times and this was a big fail!
One of the best meals and experiences we have ever had hands down. We sat at the bar. Would def recommend reservations if you aren’t a bar person or have a group of people. Nat was extremely helpful in helping us pick out appetizers, entrees and cocktails/wine. Extremely knowledgeable about the food and drinks (he is a sommelier FYI). We had raw local oysters, tilefish and sheepshead as well as crème brûlée for dessert. The vinaigrette on the house salad was amazing! This was our last night of vaca so we wanted to splurge and we were not disappointed. Top 5 dining experiences of my life.
We had the oysters (so fresh!), shrimp bisque and gumbo for apps, then the linguine and fish of the day. Great food and excellent service, thanks Kevin!

This restaurant sets the bar of excellence very high on Ocracoke Island. The red snapper and the parmesean-encrusted trigger fish was simply superb! The service was excellent too. It was the perfect choice for a 33rd Anniversary dinner for my wife and me. If you plan on going, get there by 5pm for quick seating. However, if your party is 5 or more Flying Melon will take a reservation.
Updating my review for 2024. My wife and I visited Ocracoke with friends for a week, and as always, a dinner at the Flying Melon is a MUST! I had the Cobia with lemon beurre blanc and my wife had the Sheepshead with lemon beurre blanc. We both tried each dish and both were fantastic! Our friends had pecan encrusted Drum, and loved it! The Raspberry cheesecake was the perfect finisher! The bartender and the wait staff were spot-on, simply perfect, attentive, helpful, knowledgeable, and kind!
If you go to Ocracoke Island, you really need to treat yourself and those you are with to a meal at the Flying Melon!

Best restaurant on the island hands-down. Great-looking space, terrific food, and good service. What else can one ask for?
Had a wonderful dinner there tonight, our last night on Ocracoke. Everything we had was delicious: shrimp appetizer, mushroom cheesecake, Parmesan-encrusted flounder, coffee crème brûlée.

We enjoyed dinner at the Flying Melon yesterday. I had baked oysters as a starter. They were wonderful. Just done, the oysters were juicy and flavorful. My main course was an encrusted red drum. Caught just off the island this was fresh and delightfully flavorful. I'd have these two things any day.

Bartender is an alchemist. Seriously-well-crafted cocktails was something completely unexpected but welcome. Great food and service, as everyone else has already told you.

Food was just okay for me. For 3 people our bill was over 100. I probably wouldn't go back. It's a nice astomphere but to Pricy for our budget. Service was great and very clean. Free parking. If you have a large group make reservations.

Best place to get a cocktail on the island. I have been coming here since they opened on 12 and their food has been consistently excellent. Great place to come for a classy dinner with reliably good service and varied menus.
