Visited here in June 2021. It's probably the best restaurant on the island. The flying melon is an upscale restaurant with cajun flair. The restaurant is bright and warm, perfect for a rainy night. The food was very good. The pasta I ordered was nice, cheesy, and fresh. The service was very nice. We will be back next time we are on the island.

One of the best places to eat in Ocracoke if you want a more formal mean and atmosphere.

The food here is always delicious! The service is provided by a very kind staff. The pecan crusted red drum is a must have if it’s on the daily menu! Hope you enjoy!

We really enjoyed ourselves! Our waiter Caylen was professional and personable. Our wine choices were excellent. The Scallop special with Oyster mushrooms was great. My Sheepshead fish was tasty. And to top it off we shared a bread pudding that was mmmmmmm good. This review might sound a little over the top, and it is, a little, but we will definitely go back on a future trip to Ocracoke Island

I had grilled scallops with bacon, red potatoes, and a green salad. All were excellent. The scallops had been cooked with bacon, which were the best scallops I have ever had. New Orleans style bread pudding dessert was also excellent. Staff was efficient and food arrived at reasonable pace.

We visited The Flying Melon upon several suggestions. Our table was less than 3 feet of tables on either side of us so there was no room for any private conversation. Our waiter, Kevin, was less than pleasant and offered no suggestions or assistance with the menu. When we asked questions, he had short curt answers. The Sheepshead dinner was just ok. The portion size was excellent but the taste very bland. The coconut rice under the fish was good. We probably won’t return to this restaurant again!

Flying Melon was a great experience. The food was well prepared, presented beautifully, and was delicious. The building itself had history, yet was fresh and added to the unique blend of tradition and modern twists. If we get back to the island it will be on our list of places to go!

After ascending the stunning spiral staircase we had a perfect table for two. We could look down on the bar but still felt we were separated from other tables enough to have a cozy conversation. Our waitress was friendly knowledgeable and helpful without hovering too long. Everything from the pecan crusted fresh catch of the day to dessert was superb.
