Worth the drive to go enjoy this old apothecary and soda shop. Food is welcoming and homey and the service is usually very good. Love the fresh made lemonade, the foot long Hotdog and bowl of cheese (lasagna).

This place had nice sandwiches. It was hard to find a place since it’s really popular.

Delicious! Got the Haw River sundae and it was huge- enough for all 3 of us to share.

The dine-in experience takes you back to simpler times and the food and shakes, floats or creams keep you there! Great friendly staff that pairs well with delicious food combined for time well spent. Would definitely return again.

Fun former drug store. Good food but great ice cream. A really great place for lunch, with kids. Server is quick and responsive.

Neat atmosphere. Waitress was nice. Food wasn't that great. We had a party of 4 and it took an hour to receive our food. And then when my food arrived, my sandwich and 'hot' chips were cold.My husband got the lasagna, aka 'bowl of cheese' and it was piping hot, so at least his food was warm. I last had it 20 years ago at The Rat and loved it, but he wasn't impressed with it at S&T. It was mostly an expensive bowl of cheese with a few noodles. When they say 'lite meat sauce' they mean that...the meat is hard to find. He said he wouldn't get it again.I got the Italian "Drip Beef" Sandwich that's supposedly consisting of thinly sliced beef and peppers cooked in a jus. The roast beef was as dry as can be with no moisture whatsoever on pieces that weren't covered with peppers. The peppers were the only thing with any juice and they're the reason why the bun was falling apart, not because the meat was also in juice. So the menu description didn't match the way it was presented. I also ordered a side of their hot chips (homemade potato chips) and they were with the roast beef sandwich, not on the side so we could share, and it was literally just a handful of chips for $5.50. They were cold and mushy from the peppers they were touching that were on the plate under them.If it takes an hour to get food, I at least expect the food to be warm. The rest of our party enjoyed their burger and chicken sandwich. My sandwich apparently sat there a while before they finished making the rest of our order. I doubt we'll be back. It was a one-time experience for us and one I regret spending $40 on.

Close quarters seating, but it wasn't uncomfortable. Got the lasagna. Y'all, you must know that it's not really lasagna. It's a bowl with a few noodles, some small meatballs and pepperoni underneath about a pound of melted cheese. It is so cheesy and gooey that you must actually eat it carefully to avoid choking! That said, it was delicious and indulgent, and I will order it every time I go there. ?Finished the meal off with the Haw River Mud dessert, which was way too much and just enough at the same time.Later visit: Got the footlong beef hot dog with chili. This dog is probably an inch and a half in diameter and weighs about 2 pounds. It's a serious proposition, and it's got a great grilled flavor. The chili was good too. Got a bowl of ice cream for dessert. It was wonderful and came in an old-timey metal serving bowl. Even though it was only a single scoop, it was about the size of a softball, so take that into account.
