My window cleaner told me to check them out... They have some of the best chocolate cake I've ever had and when I brought it home to the wife I was a hero!!

Cafe Root Cellar is at the top of my list of Pittsboro restaurants. Every brunch, lunch, and dinner entree in be had has been a 10/10! Delicious, fresh, creative food with excellent service and tasty dessert options.

I dined here for brunch yesterday with my boyfriend. I ordered the Sunday Sunrise. It normally comes with turkey sausage. Chef Sera was able to change that to vegan sausage for an up charge of $5.00. I wasn’t sure about doing this when ordering, but I am glad I did.

When the server brought out my dish, I noticed the vegan sausage on the side. The server mentioned to me that the chef also put the vegan sausage in the biscuit itself. I thought the up charge was fair since she put the vegan sausage in the biscuit itself as well as one in the side.

The food was amazing!! It was a gastronomic culinary delight!! The chef uses the freshest ingredients from local farms. All the flavors came together beautifully. Oh! It either comes with cheddar grits or the cheesy potato casserole…I opted for the potato casserole after speaking with the person I ordered with. That was definitely the right advice. It was super delish!!

This dish is a must try when you come here. I gave some to my boyfriend to try and he really liked it and he eats meat. My boyfriend got the breakfast burrito which he enjoyed.

My boyfriend and I sat at the outdoor patio. As I was coming out, my boyfriend said, “This is the chef’s mother.” It was so cool I got to meet her.

I highly recommend this place.

Vegetarian options: Chef Sera is very open to dietary restrictions and can make changes when possible. There is a large vegetarian or even some vegan options.

I have been looking forward to trying this restaurant for a while. Love that it is LGBTQ owned and really wanted to love it. Unfortunately that wasn’t the case.
The people ordering before us ordered a modified chefs burger, asking for no garlic on their fries.
Sounded good, so husband and I got the chefs burger to split and it came with garlic fries, and we also got fountain soda, and water.
When our food came, it was brought by the person we ordered from, I noticed the fries looked like typical fries, and I asked “are these the garlic fries” and she hesitated, seeming to make a decision, then they replied yes. It was as if she was contemplating if she should tell me they weren’t the correct fries. I tried a few fries, and asked another waitress, “is this burger supposed to come with garlic fries?” She said she thinks so, and I asked “if this was how the garlic fries supposed to look usually” and she said she didn’t know. The fries were plan as day, honestly no seasoning at all, not even salt. Seemed like the frozen fries I get at Lowe’s across the street.
The burger patties looked as though they were frozen burger patties. They have in the description it’s the best burger in Pittsboro, and honestly, I would have rather had a Big Mac, at least that would have stayed together. The burger was a sloppy mess, falling apart, with very little flavor. To be honest there are also multiple other local restaurants I’d rather get a burger. Especially when the bill was over $25 -_-

I sincerely have been looking forward to trying this restaurant for over a year, and I want to think it was a fluke but I don’t think I could convince my husband to go back and try it again to test my theory.

Food was beyond amazing and I just had a burger! Knocked me out my socks good! Service was fantastic and extremely friendly. Left in a really great mood. Contagious positive energy in there for sure! You can just tell this is a well oiled machine run by folks who truly care about the food they put in front of you.

If you've never been, your missing out! The food was as close to divine as you're going to get at a place with counter service. The French fries particularly tasted perfect, like the Platonic Form of as French fry. The pasta was unique and tasted fresh and the ribs were sauce to perfection.

They should consider getting some live music and maybe some beer on tap. Don't partake myself, but I bet there's room for one more joint serving craft brews in Pittsboro. It would go down real nice with the ribs or the burger, if I were still drinking.

We have now been twice and a great experience both times. They are open for dinner - the food is fresh and creative. Unique beverages. Order at the counter and the food comes out quickly. Inside and outside seating. Be sure to save room for dessert!!

Plain sandwich for $10. Not even a pickle included. Don't waste your time with this place.

This is a walk up and order, but they do bring the food to your table. Fairly basic menu, farm to table, fresh. I had the peach ginger pop tart and Imll tell you it was fantastic. Real chunks of peach, subtle ginger flavor, soft but not mushy crust. For the healthier clientele, get the avocado toast, earthy mushrooms, hearty whole grain toast with a spark of chili oil. Get there, enjoy!

Dietary restrictions: Clearly labeled gluten free, dairy free, nut free options.

Kid-friendliness: Brought our 2-year old, good options for her, she slept the whole time. Friendly atmosphere.

Cafe Root Cellar is such a lovely part of Pittsboro. The ever-changing menus that highlight the seasons, local produce, and the talents of co-owner Chef Sera Cuni, make for a great end-of-the-week dinner spot. Love that the atmosphere is casual while the food is a culinary delight. The patio is the perfect spot to enjoy your meal much of the year with NC's mild winters and the placement of a fire pit and portable heaters. And, almost every time we visit, co-owner Susan is out and about checking on guests. They also serve delicious brunch on Sundays!

Dietary restrictions: Chef Sera is very aware of dietary restrictions and needs. The menu always has at least one vegeterian option, and often a vegan option as well. The gluten-free items are prepared in their own separate area. She is always willing to make adjustements for for dietary needs when possible, and is able to clearly answer questions regarding ingredients and preparation.
