Incredible beers in all varieties. Juice bomb IPAs, smoothie sours, and unbelievably rich big barrel aged stouts. Dog friendly indoors and out, super relaxed atmosphere. The best brewery in the area by far!!

Best imperial stouts in Raleigh! Get a flight, you won't regret it. Also gotta try the Sours!

Absolutely love this place! Altered State Brewing has become a favorite stop while my daughter’s at dance nearby. Becca was amazing super friendly and made great recommendations. Every beer I’ve tried has been solid, but I’m especially a fan of their sour selection so good. The vibe is laid-back with a great mix of indoor and outdoor seating, and the ambiance lighting makes it a perfect chill spot. Highly recommend!

My favorite brewery ever! Most creative beers around, and there’s a really laid back vibe. This place has something for everyone—love the Wunderbar series! Also, although we rarely bring our small kids and the place isn’t overrun with kids, I like that their web site specifically says dogs and kids welcome; this is the perfect neighborhood brewery and we’ll always keep some Altered State beers in the fridge!

First brewery I’ve been too since moving to NC from a very high production beer market in Chicago with many many great spots. Altered State truly can hang with some of the best rated breweries in the country.

The hazy triple “ domesticated animals” in unbelievably drinkable at 10%. Smooth on the tongue with punchy dank citrus notes with a mildly bitter finish with minimal alcohol lingering. The strata hopped single ipa and “every song I’ve ever heard” are unbelievably palatable hazys that go down a bit too easy.

Now for the star of the day. The Nektar series. These may be the best fruited sours ive ever had. Quite honestly too good to describe. Not to mention the colors of these sours are usually seen in a grocery store not a pint glass.

Service was impeccable and the space was open and family friendly.

If you can make it to Altered State you will not be disappointed.

Found this little gem, and keep coming back! Great selection of beer. They even have the first sour I have ever liked. Love the outdoor seating and fire tables. Not loud and overwhelming, just a chill place to grab a beer and unwind at the end of a long day.

Not a fan of children running rampant through a brewery! Leave your kids at home- thanks!

Our favorite brewery and a hidden gem in NC! We have driven multiple hours to get a taste of these always-rotating brews! Their smoothie-style sours are one of a kind, the stouts are rich, and even their IPAs are palatable (from someone who hates IPAs). The brewers and bartenders have always welcomed us by name and served us quickly and happily, the the choice of indoor or outdoor seating is great in warm weather. Cannot recommend enough!

This place is my new favorite! They have five sours on tap and even do flights of just sours. They had lots of other options as well and had a more unique selection than other places. The staff was so friendly. We stopped in and played a game and we’re really welcomed and comfortable. Will absolutely be back!

Calm, friendly, humorous vibe with knowledgeable staff very willing to talk beer. Their kettle sours in particular are creative and excellent- always up for a pour of the White Chocolate Banana Pudding selection when available. Tap room is cozy with a few tables outside. A slam dunk choice for craft beer lovers. Although not a guarantee, typically don't see a lot of children at this tap room.

We love this place! The staff is really helpful and friendly and every beer we have tried has been amazing. Great options for flights and having a beer for there and also 4 packs and bottles to go. Love having them in our area!

My husband and I came here with our dog on my birthday and both had flights containing sours and IPA’s. All were delicious. The beertenders were friendly and welcoming to us and our dog. We left happy with a new shirt and sweatshirt in hand. Highly recommend…especially the unique sours 🍻

We came for fruity brews and we got plenty yummy beers. We appreciated their generosity and letting us taste different hazy brews- which were all delicious.

Banana pudding was yet again my favorite.

Fun low key brewery highly recommend! Bring your pup too!

Best sours in Raleigh

After reading these reviews, I had high hopes as a sour fan. But I found these sours way too thick, they were the consistency of a smoothie (ick). They were also too sweet except the grapefruit one.
Also, I think someone needs to edit their website and remove the 'Family friendly' description. We went with our small children and the bartender was staring daggers at us the entire time, despite the fact it was a quiet night and we weren't bothering anyone (except for her). I would NOT recommend bringing little kiddos here.
