Our group of eight had planned enjoying this Christmas gathering at the Angus Barn since the day I got onto the Open Table platform and successfully secured a reservation for the Saturday after Christmas. Many would say that is quite a feat however if you simply follow the directions on how to make a reservation at this very popular Raleigh restaurant it is very doable. With that being said we had one of the most memorable dining experiences in many of our lives on this particular visit to the Angus Barn. You see, their team of many begin decorating the entire property starting October 1st and finish around mid November. Ask any employee and they will give you the history of this big red barn, how the Christmas decorations have evolved, and so much more history surrounding the 65 years their doors have been opened. It is truly magical at Christmas time - a MUST SEE as words cannot do justice to the details and enormity of the undertaking. Our favorite bartender Mike was working the Saloon Bar this past visit, and he is a delight. Makes every guest feel so welcome and so appreciated. Plus, he misses up a great smoked old fashioned! Katie was the greeter at the Saloon host stand, and she truly welcomes you as if you are entering her own home. Her smile is contagious. When our table for 8 was ready up in the Loft (an open & airy option for dining if that appeals to you) we were greeted by David who, like Katie, exudes a genuine warmth and kindness. How fortunate are we to have experienced Naomi as our server. First time ever having her take great care of our dining experience, and we all agreed as we departed the Angus Barn that Naomi truly made this special evening doubly memorable. From her adorable southern accent to her charming personality and efficient style of serving each of her guests with care, Naomi shined above most servers we have had at any restaurant. There are schools of thought about steak houses such as this one, and I land in no particular pool of thinking (some say it should all be a la carte while others say the prices should dictate some included accoutrements). Having worked in the business all I can say is that these folks at the Angus Barn know what they are doing, they consistently put out fantastic flavors, and the entire place runs like a well oiled machine that is routinely provided loving guidance. Around each corner you are greeted with a smile of sincere caring for each guest and their dining experience. From valet, to host stand, to bartenders & servers, and continuing all the way through the kitchen team - kind greetings and smiles abound. It’s like dining at Grandma’s or Auntie’s house. I wish to comment on a few dishes in particular that our family raved over: the wedge salad is spectacular and unique (a must try for wedge lovers!), the rib meat literally falls off the bone as they explode with flavor, the grilled rack of lamb was prepared & presented perfectly (my Greek grandfather would have been proud of this dish!), and the espresso rub filet mignon with the blue cheese mash was incredible and off the charts in the flavor. We made it to dessert, but only because Naomi graciously boxed up several items to enjoy during the football games the next day. Chocolate cheeks with an Oreo crust will make every chocolate lover swoon, the North Carolina blackberry cobbler with vanilla ice cream is the stuff dreams are made of, and the NY cheesecake would befriend any native New Yorker. Most of our group had to travel home which is out of state but not me! My husband and I wish to call Angus Barn our new culinary home away from our downtown Raleigh home. Thanks to Van and her kindness that weaves through every team member we will be returning soon.
I cannot say enough good things about our experience at the Angus Barn! We went the Sunday before Christmas without reservations and fully expected a very long wait because it seemed that at least half the people in North Carolina were there as well, but to our surprise we were actually seated within 45 minutes which was totally amazing. But what was really much more amazing was the way everyone single staff member treated us. We were greeted with happy smiles and very polite consideration from the moment we got in the wait line all the way through to the time we departed. It was a packed and hectic restaurant but we never felt rushed. It was actually such a warm family feeling that when we left I felt that I had just enjoyed a wonderful evening at a friends house. There were so many nice touches; a fresh apple barrel to help yourself to, a treasure chest for small children, cheese and crackers to enjoy, and fresh baked gingerbread cookies to grab on the way out the door. The food and wait staff were superb also. There are plenty of nice restaurants to spend some bucks on a great steak dinner but at all the others an expensive dinner is exactly what you get but at the Angus Barn it was so much more, we left feeling valued and special. Thank you Angus Barn for doing a superb job. We’ll be back!!
We had heard how very magical the Angus Barn restaurant is during the Christmas Season and beyond. As fairly new residents of Raleigh, North Carolina, my husband and I invited two locals of the Raleigh area to join us for a Monday night dinner at Angus Barn earlier this week. We all four were touched instantly by the entryway into the parking lot. We knew we were in for a very special dining experience. From the road we had seen the Big Red Barn lit up along with lights all throughout the trees in the surrounding area. We valet parked with a very friendly man named Harold who has been working with Van and her team for (I believe he said) 25 years! WOW! That shows loyalty to a place. The entire property is decorated in such a way that it takes your breath away. You cannot put into words how the team of volunteers transforms an already beautiful building into a true Winter Wonderland. I hear they begin October 1st and take about 6 weeks to complete their Christmas magic. We had the great honor of having Corey Mozdziak as our server this last visit. He did a fabulous job reading the table, noting that we needed some time to simply catch up as friends who had not seen each other in several months. The wine was delivered to our table at just the right temperature and as anyone who has dined at Angus Barn knows, the selection is stellar. None of wanted to start with an appetizer as the complimentary cheese, crackers, and relish tray kept our hunger at bay until soups and/or salad arrived, followed by our entrees. The French onion soup at Angus Barn is just what the doctor orders on a cold & snowy evening (yes, it was snowing this past Monday in the area). My husband's wedge salad was enough for us to split and then some. The flavors in that wedge salad are so unique and amazing. Both of the guys in our group enjoyed the feature which was a Tuscan Spiced Ribeye. Having the option of potatoes/sides is crazy GREAT. Angus Barn does a fabulous stuffed potato which in other places is referred to as a twice baked potato. My friend Amy had a delicious 7 oz filet mignon that the team did to a perfect rare temperature. My blackened tuna was so delicious and the cut of fish was so fresh and so substantial. I loved the carrot puree this dish sits in along with an Asian green bean salad. All of us agreed that the dining experience at Angus Barn never disappoints. Plus all four of us had some food left to take home and Corey graciously boxed each one up for us with a smile and an attitude of complete hospitality. From the moment little "elves" greeted us at the front door with offers of a complimentary gingerbread cookie to the kind staff that smiled as we wandered from decorated dining room to more decorated dining room, we felt so very welcome and appreciated. And that is what sets Angus Barn apart from every single restaurant you will dine at. Van, Steve, their children, and many, many longtime employees (who are family to them) run a great operation. Every person who works there is given the autonomy to do right by each guest. Guest service is the number one priority and it shines like all of their Christmas lights!
What a great atmosphere. The decorations are top notch. We had a great waitress Melissa, she very knowledgeable about the menu. Her personality was outstanding. We brought friends from NY and she made them feel welcomed.
We were lucky enough to be a part of the Humphries Thanksgiving with you all. We brought home the cheesecake to have for lunch today. It was the best we have ever eaten. We'll be back, because we are locals. Thank you ALL..

Thanksgiving great deal for dinner, plenty of food. The dinner to dessert should have paused a few minutes.
Tough serving so many dinners, the turkey gravy should be hot, the sides could have been warmed.
The food was delicious especially the meat.
Coming back next year. 😁

Our server was annoyed we had kids and definitely let it show. Steak was bland. Atmosphere is amazing other than the server we had…..I’ve been on the industry for years and the way she made it clear she was annoyed made me uncomfortable and affected our experience.
Christina was our waitress. She was awesome. The food was GREAT as expected. Great service + Great food = Great place to eat. Thanks Angus Barn!
We were seated at the exact time as our reservation. The atmosphere was so inviting. Our waitress was exceptional. The food was OK. The sides that came with the main “entree” were soooo good!!! But the steaks were not that great. That were cooked perfect to temp. But the outside of the steak was charred and they had absolutely NO seasoning/flavor to them whatsoever. Literally everything else about this restaurant is amazing! The other sides, the desserts, the wait staff, the appetizers, etc. We drove almost 2 hours to eat here, to get one of these “famous” steaks… And they weren’t good at all. Other than being perfectly cooked to temp. We would like to come back, we just won’t be getting steaks.
The second year of our Angus Barn Christmas Friends Tradition. Man, the food is so tasty and yet an 8:00 reservation is torture! I think I've ordered the same thing each time, Filet Mignon, mashed potatoes, salad, plus all the pickle plates and cheese and crackers to start. It leaves you full with leftovers for the next day. And now two years running on missing out on the complementary gingerbread men...shameful on my part! We loved our server Molly and our time together as well as looking at all the decorations. We do not love the new reservation process, but we did get reservations for Dec. 2025...at 8:30pm-eek! It's a special tradition and so very tasty!

I had gone to the Angus Barn a lot during 1973-75, but had not returned till this past weekend, when I went to Raleigh to visit family. Not only was the Angus Barn still a goos restaurant, but it improved a lot over the past 50 years. The decor was substantially more attractive. The service was now outstanding. And the food was truly terrific. My Raleigh relatives will see a lot more of me in coming months.
FOOD NOT WORTH THE PRICE - KEEP LOOKING -FOR ANOTHER PLACE FOR A GOOD MEAL. DISAPOINTING PRIME RIB - SOUP WAS OFF - VEG, WAS NOT GREAT - NOT WORTH 58 DOLLARS - OVER RATED -- FOOD WAS AVG AT BEST
Thank you Nancy for being so kind and accommodating. She also gifted me a t shirt. Keep on being amazing you really made my experience so much better. 🥰
Seriously disappointed I was served a vein-end NY strip. I did not think the Angus Barn would do that. Should I ever go again I'll specify I want a center-cut strip. The vein end has some nasty gristle connective tissue that doesn't chew well. It was perfectly cooked, though. $62 for a steak should not include vein-end steaks.
The atmosphere is amazing and the service is superb!!!
