Tofu puffs are not tofu puffs at all. They are just soft tofu with some Mapo tofu ingredients. You can’t fool the Chinese people.

I had a medical appointment at Brier Creek. Afterwards, I wanted to get something quick to eat and my cellphone told me there was a restaurant at this address. When I arrived, I only saw a big supermarket, the Fresh International Market (this Chinese supermarket only opened within the last year). When I got inside, I eventually found this place that serves Asian hot buns and drinks. There is a kiosk at which you can order your food, I ordered from the lady behind the counter. I ordered the dried mushroom bean curd and vegetable buns, three pieces. They actually make them from scratch, I had to wait about 15 minutes, which was worth it, they were delicious. They are served in a box and look attractive. Prices are not inexpensive, but worth it for what you get. I got there late in the day, so they were not able to make me one of their drinks. Customer service was friendly, language was a little bit of an obstacle but not insurmountable.

Only got the mushroom/tofu bao buns, but they were fantastic! Got them for 2 other friends and they also thought highly of them. Three good sized buns for $6 ish dollars.

Waited over an hour for my food. Really annoyed/disappointed to see that the char siu buns they serve are just the frozen ones in the supermarket freezers. I can’t believe I waited an hour just to watch them pull the exact buns I have in my freezer and put them in a bamboo steamer. I ordered a noodle dish, char siu buns and soup dumplings. None of it was good. Asked for a refund after 30 min wait, but their kiosk system is not set up to give refunds. Avoid.

I heard the dumplings weren’t too good, so I tried the popcorn chicken (spicy) instead. It was pretty good and definitely for a good price compared to other places. I will definitely order the popcorn chicken again! ?

Buns are not freshly made (from factory frozen packages) and mediocre, also the package cannot protect the bun so well that soup has broken out of them. Does not worth for a 1.5 hours wait IMO.Also, it seems that they are escalating anyone who asks for updates. I understand the intent of serving someone in rush, but it is unfair for those waiting for pickup messages.

I had a Sichuan Spicy Wonton in Red Oil. The red oil is fine. But all wontons are stick with each other and I could barely find any meat in the dish. The texture of noodles is really bad too. It tastes like overcooked and being placed aside for a long time.Totally not recommend it.

Do you have a favorite place that you absolutely love regardless of people's reviews and ratings? To me, Bao Shi Yi 包十一 is such a precious place that I love even more each time I visit. Bao means Bun, and Shi Yi, Eleven, can you guess the story behind the name? On Saturday mornings, after dropping off father-in-law for his acupuncture session, we like to take a break and have some Chinese breakfast at Bao Shi Yi. The place is always lively with Chinese patrons on weekend mornings. The place is small but bright and charming. I always order their Organic Soy Milk 有机豆浆 because it's the best in town to me, a welcoming beverage to start the meal off properly. They offer Tofu Pudding 豆花 in three options, Salty, Sweet, and Mala Spicy 咸、甜、麻辣. The Sweet Tofu Flower is so silky and delicate that it almost slides off my tongue. It's so enjoyable and fun to have the almost weightless pudding swirls in my mouth before it smoothly glides down. The sweetness level is at the sweet spot for Asian sensibility. Another perennial favorite of ours is Porridge with Preserved Egg and Lean Meat 皮蛋瘦肉粥, which is a recommended house specialty. It's the ultimate comfort food, with complex flavored Preserved Egg and savory Lean Pork slices, in a container of hot Porridge that makes our tummies warm and happy. The most satisfactory thing to order to accompany the two items mentioned above is Chinese Donut - 鸡蛋油条. The Chinese label implies that Eggs are incorporated into their dough, which explains why it smells and tastes so much better. YouTiao literally translates as Oily Sticks, it's crunchy on the outside and chewy inside, and makes my mouth greasy biting into it, but the oil they used to fry it is clean tasting, so befitting its name and executed perfectly by the restaurant. Their YouTiao is my top favorite in town, no other places wow me as much. I would never expect to find the best Cantonese style Juicy Cha Siu Buns 爆汁叉烧包 here at a mostly Mainland style Chinese restaurant, but they beat other Dim Sum places in town for me. The Skin has the right density and fluffiness when served hot, filled with juicy Cha Siu bites inside. When I take a bite into this childhood favorite Bun of mine, I can taste sweet and savory, delivered in a white spongy bun that's like heaven in my mouth. Their style of food is not for everyone, but to me, it doesn't matter at all, I love Bao Shi Yi. It's comforting, tasting, and homely to me. Their food gives me a sense of familiarity and solace that is unbeatable. I'm already looking forward to my next visit. Has anyone figured out the answer to the meaning of their name yet? I'm also open to suggestions as to where I can find similar breakfast places. Please share if you have a favorite.

i could not find the katy location Facebook page so ill post on their bellaire page. I really hate writing average or awful reviews on social media especially when it comes to small businesses. I hope they read to improve. I am disappointed because I heard alotnof great things about Bao Shi Yi and their other 2 locations. Other 2 locations was too far for me to eat and was excited they opened one in Katy. It is overhyped... why u ask? lets start with the chili wonton, im extremely disappointed because the sauce isn't as numbing like Sichuan. wonton is handmade u can tell by texture but the sauce is not spicy enough for me. it is also overly greasy, I guess its good if you can't eat too spicy but its just mediocre. Soup dumplings are prepared lukewarm, not hot. I guess thats what I get for not eating there because I ordered takeout. I heated my dumplings up again and the soup dumplings is still mediocre. It needs a bit more soup in it in my opinion. I say please improve the sauce on chili wonton to the authentic Sichuan numbing sauce and for soup dumplings, please add a little more soup so it won't taste as dry. Service is average, man at the katy location seemed like he was bothered taking orders but maybe it was an off night. Atmosphere for Katy for dine in is too small, needs more tables. Maybe they are doing this for COVID but only 3 or 4 booths and a table by the door, seriously? I am disappointed that it did not live up to my expectations. I say it isn't terrible but just mediocre and overhyped. I rate this a 3/5. I hope they can improve on these things listed. For now, my Chinese go to place will still be Hunan Plus in Katy. Their chili wonton Sichuan sauce is spicier and they got it right, numbing. Which is shame because the katy bao shi yi is much closer to me than driving 10 minutes by cinemark 19. Maybe it was an offnight but I wish bao shi yi the best.
