On a cold Saturday morning in Raleigh there wasn’t much going on in downtown. However that all changed once we stepped inside Big Ed’s City Market Restaurant. We went right around 9 am and while there was a good crowd we were seated and served immediately. Everyone we interacted with was very pleasant. Food came out quickly and was very good. I had the Farmer Joes Breakfast Bowl which was good and very filling. If you are looking for a unique spot full of Southern hospitality Big Ed’s is a great choice.
Great service, delicious western omelette, tasty coffee.

Service can be hit or miss, but definitely getting back to old level. The lady I had on Sunday was awesome.
Food is delicious, but being a country boy sometimes I have to have a few dishes fried hard

Great breakfast, fast service. There is often a line to get in for a reason, but the line moves fairly quickly.

I was visiting Raleigh and searched TripAdvisor for a unique brunch spot. Big Ed’s had outstanding reviews, and it certainly lived up to them! The food was amazing and the service was exceptional!
Chicken fried chicken was out of this world! Delicious food, warm & friendly sevice, at great prices.

Great sized portions. Great tasting food. Great service. I’d highly recommend it for breakfast. The best fried chicken I’ve ever had. Excellent smoke on the bacon. Honestly the best breakfast places in Raleigh.

First of all our server was very nice and cordial.
So I’ve been here many times. But today
was a disappointing lunch. I had the Blue plate special with cornbread and meatloaf and mac & cheese, and snap beans. And the blueberry cobbler for dessert.
The meatloaf was salty and dry, the mac & cheese was dry, tasted out of a box and the cornbread was like Jiffy cornbread.
The cobbler was okay but sort of dry too
Have they changed their food supply service or the chefs?
The cornbread used to be warm and like out of a skillet and today it was a very thin piece like out of a box.
Just wanted to know what happened? They also charge you for using your debit card.
I do hope that they can try and improve this. And I wasn’t the only one at our table of 3 that noticed it.
I was so looking forward to a home-cooked comfort food that was fresh. Today it was not. I’m hoping that it was just an odd happening. And maybe it depends on the day of the week you go.

I ordered catfish for breakfast. It was delicious if a bit over salted. An enjoyable experience.

Went about brunch time on a Saturday, small wait, they won't seat a group until everybody is there.
Breakfast was amazing (pancakes are the size of the plate, hot links sausage was amazing, those that had the omelets were very happy), My daughter had the catfish and it was probably the best catfish I ever tasted. No kids menu, and they have no problems giving you a plate to share. Wait staff was very pleasant.

Good southern eating here. Breakfast was outstanding , the biscuits were a little dense. Staff was excellent and very nice. I would highly recommend. Prices were on point. Very reasonable.
