Been coming to this place since I was a kid, the bbq and fried chicken are top notch. And the hush puppies, dont forget to get some of those.

Southern through and through. Exactly what you want out of an old school bbq joint. Don’t sleep on the fried chicken either.

The food and atmosphere were good but the food was bland. The pulled pork tasted like it was baked or steamed. No smokey flavor at all which is what I like about barbecue.

My sister and I ate there Saturday for my birthday. Freida was our server and she was awesome. The food was fantastic and the fried chicken was the best ever!

This place is fabulous. I walked there from my hotel. The food was really good the only thing is they closed early so you have to get there before 6:00. I got the brisket it was really good you get one little dab of coleslaw.

Great flavors, friendly service. Had the three meat platter. Only thing was brisket was a little dry and tougher than use to. Overall highly recommend a place to try.

I got the fried chicken and it was okay on this visit as the skin was a little soggy. but in past visits, it was been very good. The hushpuppies were very good.

My wife and I's favorite BBQ downtown! You get a ton of food in each portion and everything from the sides to the mains are delicious. The cheerwine baked beans are a personal favorite. They also have a good selection of drinks and you can take home a ton of pork skins for cheap. The service is also wonderful. Highly recommend!

We have been going around taste testing bbq. We put names in a bag and draw one. Clydes was the pick today. It was disappointing! The service was great! The people were extremely nice and checked on us numerous times! The sides I had were great! Mac and cheese and baked beans. The bbq, chopped, was disappointing. It was straight vinegar. We wanted to get pulled by they were out of pulled. I don't know if that's any better but I wouldn't recommend chopped unless you love vinegar. The place is pretty cool, the old pictures of Raleigh were interesting. Since it's a bbq place and bbq is what was disappointing i can't give it a great rating.

Ill start off with the good, the service is great! The hush puppies and skins were excellent as well. I had the baked beans and mac n cheese and they were wonderful and how it should be, the rest is just down hill from here. The chopped bbq I would give 1 out of 10. Absolutely zero flavor other than drowned in vinegar. Im a bbq expert and can tell you its just how its done even for eastern style. I travel all over to eat bbq and this was down here as one of the most disappointing. Just got back last week from Detroit tasting bbq and it was by far better than here unfortunately. Ok on to the brisket, they get -10 out of 10 for this one. I knew when it came out I made a big mistake on ordering. The appearance is just not appealing. Its not the right color nor texture. The taste was even worse. Super dry and literally taste like it was boiled. I didnt eat anything but some of the sides. Everyone at my table said the same thing about the brisket, just don't do it. I wanted to like this place but I think its the nostalgia of it that keeps this place running.

Years of wanting to try Clyde Coopers...disappointed. Chopped bbq is no good, potato salad was VERY disappointing. Same potato salad you buy from Walmart or grocery store in container. Terrible. Brisket tasted like an oven roast.

My official favorite BBQ stop after landing in Raleigh ! Totally worth struggling through without lunch and waiting to eat here..! Iconic barely describes it! Among the top recommendations I get from all kinds of folks for best bbq in Raleigh, so good. I love the classic kitsch decor, affordable prices and of course the perfectly executed food. Speedy and friendly service to boot. I always make a point to eat here when I’m in town.
