Went here because of a link on Instagram. Probably should have read the reviews first, because this place was terrible. Wasn't impressed with food and definitely wasn't impressed with the service. If I'm spending as much money as I did, I expect Angus Barn service.

Update: Current owners prioritize cute confections over good coffee.

Went here today cant call in orders any longer ... which is crazy because it takes them forever to make food ..even toast no employees had hair back while fixing my food .. waited 15 minutes for 2 pieces of advo toast .
This is NOT SANITARY PUT THE HAIR BACK AND MAKE FOOD WITH GLOVES CITY OF RALEIGH HAS SEVERAL REPORTS ON THIS AND I WILL BE MAKING ANOTHER

I TRY AND SUPPORT SMALL LOCAL BUSINESSES .. THIS IS NOT HELPING TH3 CAUSE

Please please please.please have the staff put their hair back .. dude who made my food today had his hair all hanging down I'm his face and he should have it up .. it's just unappetizing to see hair above my food
And I have found hair in my food before .. so please I begging put hair up and back đŸ˜©

And today I'm back trying to keep supporting I have 350 reward points and can't use them on nothing but drinks which I only eat at here
I eat 30 bucks worth of food a visit and I can't get nothing but coffee or tea .. which I do not buy from here.. sir Walter coffee and brew coffee or Starbucks don't do it this way .. I'm so over it ..won't be back

Again I come and employee fixes my advocado toast with no gloves .. and if we have to pay 16 for advocado toast can it actually have the ingredients on it
I literally had a dry toast .. please give me the ingredients that come on it .. not just a few drops of advocado make it like it was made all the other time I have came .. stop being chinchy ..

Please please staff needs to have hair back
Again please have long haired staff put hair up and back .. it's not sanitary to have hair hanging above food

found hair in my avocado toast today they need gloves on while fixing food and hair pulled back and up ..

Please and washing hands saw no one wash hands today at all

The coffee is pretty good! The gluten free bread is immensely dry and not that good at all. Cute location.

Cool little spot with a great vibe, awesome coffee and baked goods that are to die for! The owner was working the espresso machine and his mom is the baker. Will be back for sure!

Follow up review. Still fantastic. Too bad the developer across the street cut down all the beautiful, 400 year old oak trees. 😭

Orange marmelade cake is absolutely amazing, but staff was not very friendly or helpful. Came in about 30 minutes before close and younger girl, running the register, seemed irritated that people were still coming in, even though there were plenty of customers still sitting. Took our order, but seemed pretty standoff-ish when talking to us about the order. Ended up just taking the cake and coffee to go. Again, NOTHING was wrong with the food/drinks, but the staff could be nicer.

EDIT: It’s funny how Idle Hour is only replying to the more positive reviews
Doesn’t seem like y’all are making much effort to do better, if any at all.

First, the seating was noticeably dirty. i ordered the Vietnamese iced coffee, took about 2 sips and the rest was just ice, as you’ll see in the picture. I didn’t expect them to fill the entire cup with ice like that for that price
never had that happen at any other coffee place. I probably would’ve asked for light ice if I had known.

As a parent, I like to try new coffee shops and bring my kids along. It’s like a tradition. So I asked about kid-friendly options. The “refresher” they had on the menu is just sparkling water with a splash of syrup and they were charging over $4 for that
It felt like a low-effort drink with a high-effort price.

Then I asked if I could just get a small cup of milk for my child, and they said they’d have to charge me the price of a hot chocolate for iThat made absolutely no sense. It wasn’t about the money. Sometimes, a small gesture like offering a splash of milk for a toddler can make a customer feel welcome. Instead, I felt like every little thing was about squeezing money out of customers.

The space is also very tight, and overall, the vibe seemed more focused on profit than customer experience. Definitely not a family-friendly spot in my opinion. And won’t be coming back. Too many coffee shops around that doesn’t feel like a rip off.

The coffee and sweets were delicious! Unfortunately the service was TERRIBLE. The lady helping us was rude and very unfriendly. Will probably not be back.

Nice ambience, staff was friendly, coffee excellent. A well-made cappuccino is worth 4 stars, so that’s what they get from me. However, we probably won’t go back because of the food.

First, the desserts are very pretty but are very much form over function. My key lime pie was delicious once I unearthed it from the whipped cream and layers of white chocolate. My partner’s mushroom-shaped cheesecake was mostly gelatin and again, solid panels of white chocolate. And they are served on tiny plates, making it hard to cut into with your fork and not spray chocolate everywhere as it splinters off.

Finally, we ordered breakfast sandwiches which are delivered by an outside vendor (Matt’s) and then reheated by staff. They take the trouble to dismantle and heat up the different layers (English muffin and egg/cheese/meat) which is great. But this should result in a toasty muffin and fully heated innards. Instead the muffin was warm but totally soft and the sausage was cool in the center — not safe to eat.

If they were located closer to our home we might give them another shot, but there are so many other places to try in the area.

Matcha latte (good overall but it wasn’t really hot) and reg latte were delicious! But the real winner was the avocado toast (so freaking good) I didn’t have time to take a pic but it was gone in 2 seconds 😅 we will definitely be back! Great staff too.

I ordered the mushroom cheesecake and the flourless chocolate cake. Unfortunately, the chocolate cake was overly sweet, very sticky, and had an artificial aroma—it didn’t resemble a torte or a proper cake in taste or texture. As for the mushroom cheesecake, it was extremely disappointing—I wasn’t expecting it to be that unpleasant.

I stopped by Idle Coffee for a quick iced latte and was a bit surprised when my caramel oat milk latte rang up at $8.30—whew! That said, it was a great latte. I ended up adding an extra shot, and I really appreciated the quality of their espresso. The staff was friendly and welcoming, which made the visit even better. I’m not in this part of town often, but I’ll definitely be back to treat myself again.
