Very attentive and kind wait staff, super cozy atmosphere and a big sandwich for a good price
Dropped in for a quick lunch in one of the oldest restaurants in Raleigh and we were not disappointed. The menu hasn’t changed much in 95 years. Lunch specials were great value. Our server (Leif?) was one of the nicest and most genuine people we had met. You can really get a feel for what Raleigh was like in the past. Great experience.
This is a GLOWING review for the restaurant: friendly staff, amazing mimosa. Enjoying the history of Raleigh here!

How is This place rating so highly? Should be a cool, retro spot, but it’s grubby, horrible food with no effort or pride, and slow service

I haven’t been inside yet since it was closed when I walked by on Sunday. I noticed they have 999 reviews, so I wanted mine to be the 1000th 😀
Went in on a Sunday for lunch, sat down in an empty second floor, and proceeded to wait 45 minutes for an overcooked burger and the driest hash browns I've ever tasted. If you're going to serve bland freezer food, at least don't charge $12 for a burger hardly worth $6.
Bring a date here if you never wanna see her again.

I love the Mecca. The building and decor are amazing, the interior is like a time machine back to the 1920s. I love eating in the booths or there is great people watching if you eat outside. The foods is really good. I get the daily special a lot; my favorites are Monday's meatloaf and Wednesday's lemon herb chicken. The specials come with 2 sides and a drink for $12 so it is a fantastic deal. The other food on the menu is excellent as well. The service is very friendly, it is the type of place where they remember your name after a few visits.
Great food at a good price - service was top notch - we are visiting the area and this restaurant is worth checking out

Stood awkwardly for 15 minutes being ignored as other than the initial “just give us a minute”. After taking 12 minutes to check out 5 people the person that we thought was getting us bar seats continued to ignore us as did the rest of the staff. Each end of the bar was full of pitchers eating up two bar seats at each end. Never felt so unwelcome. One person got up from her booth to grab her own silverware. She grabbed plastic ware by the cash register. After that we ditched the place.
Great classic diner feel with fantastic food. Love to come for breakfast whenever Dre is waiting tables. Always friendly and welcoming. Quick and excellent service. He makes it feel like I am with family. Highly recommend.
