Delicious food, great service! We've dined in and just got the Family Care Packages as well! 5 Stars!
Enjoyed every single course. The mozzarella and bread was AMAZING. The best tasting menu!
The food and the wine paired with it were excellent, as was the service.
PHENOMENAL experience. Went there for restaurant week- couldn’t have been better. The mozzarella garlic bread combo bought tears to my eyes. The fried chicken is perfect, but my god- the cheesecake. It’s inspiring. The service was excellent, the owners are so kind. I can’t wait to become a regular. Do yourself a favor and make a reservation ASAP!
What a great menu. The mozzarella is phenomenal. Also loved the chicken parm ramen
It is hard to put into words how amazing this restaurant is! The food was absolutely insanely wonderful and the service was spectacular!
A noteworthy addition to Raleigh’s restaurant scene, Papa Shogun infuses Japanese flavors and ingredients into classic Italian cuisine with great success. No gimmicks or cliché formulas here—it’s pure passion and culinary ingenuity. A thoughtful menu with freshly prepared ingredients and carefully controlled flavors yields a unique dining experience in a friendly, unpretentious atmosphere. Looking for something out of the ordinary? Papa Shogun is destined to become a favorite area hotspot. UPDATE: one year later, on the eve on 2020, Papa Shogun continues to impress—evolving its creative culinary approach with a new focus on a chef’s menu. It’s a must destination for Triangle foodies, and out-of-town visitors seeking to uncover an area gem.
*Not open for lunch* despite the website noting they are and some reviews including the word lunch. No big deal but owner was there and totally ignored us when we arrived peaking in the window. Seeing that the general public can reasonably believe they’re open it would have gone a long way to acknowledge us and clarify.
Overall, I enjoyed the food and experience. Mostly hits with one miss, and surprisingly, that miss was the one thing everyone has been talking about! First, I love love love both Italian and Japanese food, so the integration of the two flavors of these cuisines is very intriguing. I freaking adored the gnocchi dish, and will return for that alone. The seafood gyoza was really good, and my only recommendation for that dish is the sauce should be a little thicker to stick to the gyoza better, as it was super flavorful. The starter popcorn was a nice touch and very zesty. The wine selection was nice and I appreciated being able to sample before deciding. Now the miss. The chicken parm ramen just did not live up to the hype. The broth had no flavor except maybe a metallic char undertone. The arugula was too bitter for this dish. The chicken was cooked very well, though. I would just expect a touch of acid to the broth (and maybe some salt) to bump up the flavor and balance the arugula's bitterness.Still, as I said, I will return, and hope this place continues to do well with such an interesting concept.
We went there last night and had a great meal. Got to sit outside in this great weather and enjoyed the gyoza and gnocchi! The waiter was very knowledgeable and friendly. Great Italian wines to choose from.

Interesting premise. I ordered one of the larger meals and was still fairly hungry afterwards. I thought the meal was decent but nothing I'd be interested in having again. Great service though!
This place was okay. It's really small and very loud. We went on a Tuesday around 7pm and it was full-ish. We made a reservation but probably could have just walked in. I'm sure its a completely different experience on a Friday or Saturday night. You never know these days. The service was good as was our mozzarella appetizer. I ordered the pork chop that was on the "small plates" section of the menu for my dinner and it was great size and tasty--but it is only just the meat and a bit of an arugula/tomato salad on top--which was fine with me. My husband ordered the chicken parm ramen. The chicken was good but we both agreed that the broth of the soup was not. It was very smoky, bitter and extremely salty. We assumed (incorrectly) that it would be more of a traditional ramen flavor. Maybe we'll go back? Undecided on this one.
Went for the Chicken Parm Ramen, want to go back to have everything else again.
This place is absolutely delicious! Wow, I would have never thought Japanese and Italian food would marry together so well! Everything we ordered was bursting with flavor, superb presentation..hands down delicious! I went with a friend and we ordered three of the small plates (pulled mozzarella, shrimp scampi, and tonkatsu Milanese) and shared a large plate, their famous chicken parm ramen. The service was excellent too! I can't wait to eat here again!
We made a last minute decision to try this place out for a late meal, and I'm so glad that we did! We were greeted and seated promptly, and ordered quickly. Service was fast, friendly, and efficient. Then there's the food, which was phenomenal! The small plates all looked delicious, but we went with two large plates to share - the gnocchi and the chicken parm ramen. SO GOOD! The flavors blended so we'll, the katsu chicken was tender, and the tastes stay with you. Will be back soon to try more items!!!
