After waiting over an hour... server says if you don't like it here, you can leave. Service here is a ZERO. Atmosphere ZERO and I am not talking about the fact that this is a house in a neighborhood turned into a restaurant. Staff here are stressed, irritable, and not enough servers to go around. I'd feel bad for them if the crazy left feminist in glasses with a tattoo on her leg didn't behave so poorly. Her attitude is inexcusable, unacceptable. Other reviews and several multiple negative reviews on here are complaining about the staff's behavior and incrediby long wait times. Even if your food is good, I wouldn't know as I waited an hour and watched everyone else, including people come well after me get served and get better cared for since they are a group and I am one person. When I complain to my server, several minutes pass. Later I complain to a waitress, and being the crazy feminist she says with a nasty attitude If you don't like it here you can leave. I go to the elderly lady/hostess at the front of the entrance and complained about this waitress. After seeing the old woman just stand there with a blank empty stare I left. She is as senile as Joe Biden. After seeing everyone else at Smokestacks get brisket tacos I went to another restaurant as it was dark now as I waited probably until sunset when I left. Going to another restaurant, a real restaurant where the people treat you well... so much better than how people treat you at the Smokestacks hellhole run by crazy feminists. At this other restaurant, the black girl taking my order was incredibly polite, mature, professional, and ladylike. And while waiting on my order, the manager at this other establishment was caring, asking have I been helped, and he even brought my order to me. Total opposite of Smokestacks. It's good to see there are restaurants in Raleigh where southern hospitality actually exists ! And seeing the owner of Smokestacks responds to reviews on here: if you don't want to dicisipline the waitress for her behavior you can easily find someone off the street as you should not allow her to work at your establishment again unless you like that she wastes people's time as you should take money out of her paycheck when she behaves so poorly as you don't like wasting food you take forever to cook as much as customers get pissed when you treat them like an afterthought and you watch everyone else at the restaurant get treated by you. She should get a degree in hospitality management. And you too since it seems like you have never been to a restaurant and seen what service and respectful staff are like. Otherwise, she shouldn't be a waitress and you should learn how to run a restaurant from Stansbury, Crawford and Son. Those restaurants deserve people's loyalty and patronage. Really, that waitress is an absoute embarrassment as the only thing worse than her being a server is if she was your own daughter as that is reflection on your parenting skills as she comes from a crazy line of feminist idiots. Really, you should fire the girl especially when I saw how much better the next restaurant was I went to as it was night/day compared to the miserable environment as your house masquerading as a makeshift restaurant.
By far thee best wholesome meal I've experienced in a long time. No one can ever tell me to try anything blue cheese, but the blue cheese cheesecake with bone marrow, biscuits and apricot spread was the most heavenly. The combo threw me off until I tried it. Melted in my mouth. Every flavor complimented each other. The fried fish and grits another delight. The fish was so light and wasn't greasy one bit. Quality food to boot. If I could give 10 stars I would so here goes 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Some of the absolute best food I’ve had in ages. We had several appetizers and entrees, everything was absolutely delicious and high quality. Would highly recommend this place to anyone…5 stars!

Place was very tight. Food was ok but the service was slow for such a small place.

I don't normally leave reviews but this a must try place. From when you pull up to the restaurant to when you sit down it's got a very cozy and homey vibe to it. This is a place where the menu does changes daily but that's what bring such charm to it. The food we tried tonight was phenomenal with great flavor and large portion size. They are known for there meats as they can have anything from ostrich to rabbit or sting ray depending on day and time of year. Anyone looking for a unique take on food this is the place to try. Been around about five years and if you're looking for brunch they've got that too. Definitely recommend to anyone looking for something new to try.

The chef who's there is KILLING IT! Black Garlic Ribs (will literally melt off the bone) were fantastic. Love to check out the menu each week to see what new and delicious things yall are cooking up there! How they aren't more popular is beyond me especially when Raleigh, especially downtown, is full of copy and paste, uninspired and bland restaurants. Love this place!

Great little restaurant! Their menu changes daily, but from my understanding, they always have wings and a type of burger. The sauces were absolutely amazing and all made in-house. The burger combo is the best option in my opinion. Some of the items seemed very pricy, like a $17 chicken sandwich. I didn't see the sandwich and it may be amazing. But that seemed pretty steep to me.

The food was so delicious. All, if you like pickle backs, I would HIGHLY recommend theirs. They raised my expectations for how I consume pickle backs for the rest of my life!!!

It’s a cool spot, but they were out of several things. My wife and I ordered the seafood grits and pork chop, we thought both dishes were quite salty. The fries were good.

Holy Smoke!
This little jewel of a restaurant actually lives up to the State motto: “To ‘be’ rather than to ‘seem’.—so unpretentious, so casually confident, so surprisingly smart, so “what makes Raleigh, RALEIGH”.
Ben and Holly Schultz (bother/sister NCians) have created a true dining experience worthy of the tritely used phrase ‘hidden gem.’
They retrofitted the old corner “Quality Grocery” in historic Oakwood which exudes neighborhood charm, simpler times and “who’s your family” connection.
The atmosphere is thrown together casual, but the changing menu is thoughtfully eclectic, lovingly executed, and James Beard worthy. The portions are healthy, the service is delightfully conversational and the offerings are out-of-their-league sophisticated.
Anything ‘pork chop’ is a ‘go to’, Thursday’s special burger night is a ‘must’ and if they’re serving a dish of ‘smoked duck’—go for it.
No where else in Raleigh can you dine in a little bricked courtyard atop industrial wooden spools, listen to nostalgic 70’s favorites, enjoy a simple mixology of cocktails, and relish a surprising concoction of fancy flavors you’d never expect to find tucked away on an unassuming street corner.
What a way to ‘Be’.
We can’t wait to recommend this place to our guests.

One of the best restaurants in Raleigh. Food is exceptional and service is superb. Wednesday night is 1/2 price per bottle of select wine.
What better mid-week experience is there? Far better than the 'destination' spots in Raleigh!
