Overall I had a wonderful time at Stanbury. The atmosphere is very fun. The food is pretty good and the service was also good. We got the oysters that come already dressed which is nice so you don’t have to do the work. The bone marrow was very good, I especially liked the greens that came with it. The fish was the star of the show, it was so tasty! The sides it came with just made everything better and I kept wanting more. For dessert we got the halva rice Krispie which was ok, I was not wowd. Even though it came with the ice cream there was an element missing from being great. Drinks were decent as well, I especially enjoyed the last word. I’d definitely go back to see what else they have. It sucks they don’t take reservations so you have to get there at 4:30 to get a table that night. We arrived at 5:30 and got a table at 8:30. Not sure why they don’t take reservations in this day and age.

Raleigh has a number of reasonably good restaurants but truly exceptional food and service is seemingly impossible to find. Stanbury’s reviews indicated it might be an exceptional food option but sadly it isn’t. The menu offered a variety of unusual drink and wine options along with small and large dishes each of them very unique in description. Beginning with drinks, the original cocktail was descent while odd yet compelling enough to order another but the glass of a red French wine previously unknown to me truly one of the worst I’ve ever experienced. The small plates of oysters and a new twist on hush puppies were the best of our meal, the large plates of grilled rib-eye was over seasoned and simply okay and the fish item itself quite good but with accompaniments of each dish rather terrible almost ruining both. Summing up Stanbury, each menu item seemed almost like a list of unrelated unicorns. And a menu filled with seemingly individual unicorns might seem intriguing until you discover they all add up to be a very unique even bizarre menu of items that mostly aren’t very good and some not edible. Raleigh may struggle to offer the best of dinning options, but it does offer much better than this elsewhere.

Woke up still thinking about dinner, so figured Google was the right place to rave. I absolutely adore this spot. It had been a few years since my last visit, and last night proved it’s just as incredible as I remembered. The food, the atmosphere, the drinks: perfection across the board.
The last few dinners I’ve had out in Raleigh have been underwhelming and overpriced. And don’t even get me started on our last DTR meal..,I ended up with front-row seats to a full-on Jerry Springer episode in Moore Square Park. Needless to say, I usually steer clear. But Stanbury is tucked perfectly into a little neighborhood, away from all that, and the vibes are elite.
We shared four small plates, one large plate, and two desserts, and left both happy and very full at about $120 a person (yes, there were cocktails involved 👌).
If you want a dinner that feels special but not stuffy, this is the place. Can’t wait to go back.

This is the best food I’ve had in Raleigh, period. It reminds me a lot of the Michelin places in Tampa where I’m originally from. The bone marrow, lamb ribs, and tuna crudo were all divine.

Stanbury was the very first restaurant recommended to us when we moved to Raleigh and we’re only sad it took us so long to give it a shot! Our server’s recommendations were totally spot on, and we really enjoyed the seasonality of the menu. Hard to make recommendations with how frequently things change, but we were especially wowed by the Gouda and bacon brittle pairing we started our night with. Can’t wait to come back already!
