Discriminatory dress code rules. Do better Raleigh.

On the night of the 7th of November one of the bouncers and the “manager” who was in plain clothes were highly unprofessional. A fight was being instigated for absolutely no reason and the bouncers sided with the group who was instigating the incident. A member of the group stated “you guys are going to be the ones to be kicked out” and soon after, the bouncer stated “That guy is a regular so can you guys get away from them?”. The group continued to follow us and still the bouncer came to us and accused us of being the instigators. (I’d love to see the security footage.) The statements from the group and actions of the bouncer + manager lead me to believe that they know each other and are abusing their positions in the business. This behavior by the staff is conducive to violence and creates a negative atmosphere.

If I could leave one star I would, my Friend was told to go inside by a random guy for absolutely no reason. The same guy aggressively antagonized him and he was not staff. The security told us that the guy was a regular and regardless of his behavior to go inside away from the guy. While we were inside people from the party of the guy came inside near us and obviously we looked at them to see why they were standing around us. Afterwords security came back and kicked us out for antagonizing them. Although we did nothing at all. Very unprofessional favoritism for “regulars” needless to say I will not return to this establishment. Needs a change in security and the manager who wouldn’t give his name that was in civilian clothes being unprofessional.

Dogwood is dope! Free food some nights (weekdays). Drinks are delicious (depending on bartender id say). I stick w/my normal lemon drop martini w/grey goose. The crowd tends to be very young (20-23ish). But still an enjoyable time. My group and I like to bop’ to the music, while snappin’ photos with the selfie light too.

I’m so disappointed to share this experience because I’ve gone to Dogwood countless times and have never been treated the way I was last night. I was there with a few friends playing pong when the bouncer came over to tell us that we were “doing too much”, being excessively loud and getting complaints. My issues with this: 1. We weren’t. We were playing a game and getting excited, talking over the table, etc. in the same way I’ve seen others do. 2. It’s a bar and it was well after 10pm. It’s not a restaurant or library, it’s a bar. There was a dj playing music louder than we were being. If I had to guess, the alleged complaints had nothing to do with us being loud and everything to do with who we are and what we look like. 3. The bouncer was flat out rude. I’ve worked in customer service before, for years actually. In my current role, I have to address legitimate noise concerns regularly and there’s a way to do it professionally and respectfully and he did the exact opposite. He was rude, dismissive and disrespectful. And aside from that, it should’ve never been a conversation based on the simple fact that we were IN A BAR. I firmly believe this was a targeted and discriminatory based incident. If you’re a person of color, do not go here and do not give this establishment your money or time. I’ve seen multiple other reviews that also speak to this bar being discriminatory which corroborates my experience. Saddest part is the bouncers were Black men treating Black women this way smh. I sincerely hope there’s a genuine effort on behalf of management to do better.

Was told that plain white t shirts were not dress code. Looked up and saw another customer wearing a plain white t shirt. Definitely giving discriminatory vibes.

I’ am law enforcement and this establishement should be ashamed of themselves because I came from outer town and I was denied entry because of dress code and this should never happen to anyone. Nobody I know is personally looking up dress codes when they visit another city which is insane.and the owner is nowhere to be found. I’m intown for a few days ad do not wish to continue to go thru this.
I woke up today and had a charge for $48 on my account. I only ordered 3 rums and cokes and have $63 charge which is correct. I called their number a few times and it doesn’t even ring or have voicemail setup.

Update: My friend was wearing a headband, not allowed in. Black people have to hold their hair up. Get rid of those racial practices of barring people from your club just because they wear a fashionable headband. Teach your doorman the difference between a head band and gang related bandanas. Gangs have specific colors as posted by the Raleigh PD.
