Wow Bao - (Inside Venture Pizza)

Capitalism got me good today. $18 plus delivery for two mediocre bao and essentially a bowl of rice with half a microwave dinner and some croutons dumped on top of it. Absolutely ridiculous.

$18 doesn’t buy much these days but it gets you WAY more than this insult.

Looking for non-chain pizza for a Friday evening take-out, we tried Venture. On the positive side, service was quick and friendly. I also appreciated the size options. We ordered two 10” pizzas - one margherita and one hamburger and mushroom. On the down side, the tomatoes on the margherita pizza were small and chopped. Basil was barely detectable. They had only spicy sausage so we opted for hamburger on the second pizza. The crust was above average with an artisan quality. Not too thick, not too thin. Overall it was average, with potential.

It's incredibly wild how bad this food was. Why does the orange chicken have croutons and tomato in it?

I ordered the “bowl and three potstickers.” The pot stickers were burned to a crisp and the bowl didn’t have any chicken or vegetables! It had plenty of croutons though. Because everyone knows croutons are the best part of orange chicken?! I will not be ordering from here again!

Burnt potstickers. A bowl is 97%rice and 3%shredded chicken that looks like slop.
For $35 worth of dishes, we barely had enough chicken to put together 3/4 of a chicken breast. 1 star is being too generous.

I am a member of NCDBA. Our organization went to Venture Pizza for our fundraiser. We had a pretty good turn out. The food and service was good! I think we all enjoyed our visit!

Somewhat randomly chose Venture for pizza one night during a visit to Raleigh, and it was a very good choice. Went with the supreme pizza, and an order of garlic knots. Both turned out to be the right choices. Their crust is a nice combination of crispy, yet with just a little chewiness. Would definitely order here again. Only little negative, was we had it delivered through GrubHub. Communication was pretty good on when it was ordered and approximately when it was to be delivered. And that estimated time changed 3 times after I ordered it, so I figured it would be pretty accurate. However, it showed up about 20 minutes early and the delivery person just left it on the porch, without even knocking. Fortunately, I saw him walk by the front window, and went to check the front door and found the pizza. And there was no communication from Venture or GrubHub that the food had been delivered. In the end, everything turned out well, and the pizza was very good.

The filling in the bao buns is thinned by adding a bunch of vegetables and thickener. The filling flavor didn't taste great in any of the bao buns. The bao bun exterior were dry and thick.

I have had much better bao at the Asian Market in Cary. It was very dry and not much filling in each.

I ordered through a delivery service this past Saturday, 01/28/2023. Everything was very neatly packed, including sauced packed with the entrees individually, and securely fastened. The containers were easy to open, and items were organized in the bag. They arrived hot, and very fresh. The bao were AMAZING, fluffy, and the fillings were very tasty. I recommend the variety packs of bao; you get their most popular flavors by default, but you can customize it to you preference if desired. Great Saturday night meal, I hope to check it out in person soon!

After having Wow Bao in Chicago I was excited to try the Raleigh one. I rarely give bad reviews but the food was really uncooked and wasn’t prepared well at all. I’ve attached image of what was supposed to be Chicken Teriyaki bowl and chicken potsticker. I hope they improve the quality.

We've eaten at Venture several times and have always had great pizza and salads. The staff is always friendly. Highly recommended.

My wife and I had Wow Bao in Chicago, and loved it. I was excited to see on their website that they have two locations in Raleigh. I called this location using the number provided on Google. A lady with a south Asian accent answered "Venture Pizza". That's weird. I asked if they used to be Wow Bao. She said they have a "Wow Bao virtual kitchen" that does deliveries, only. I placed an order and said I would pick it up. It is indeed "Venture Pizza", and has absolutely no visual presence for Wow Bao. They don't even have printed Wow Bao menus. My order was ready. It was correct in all respects, and the food was quite tasty. But again, there was no visual presence for Wow Bao, and that includes the packaging, too. The lady working the counter was indeed from India. So an Indian lady in an Italian pizza kitchen served me Chinese bao for takeout. Only in America. Weird. I'm 99% sure it was in a freezer and was microwaved after I placed the order. But again, the food was quite good. Maybe eventually, Raleigh will get a real Wow Bao location.
