Spanky's Deli & Homemade Ice Cream

First off, we love to support local and Spankys has always been one of our go to places since I was little. This is the second time I’ve come in the past month or so and the first time it wasn’t great but I opted to give another opportunity, sadly. For 3 daily specials of a cup (not bowl) of soup and a mini sandwich with turkey it was $50 something. I understand inflation has affected everyone but serving very mediocre food with a side of annoyed employee is not worthy of that in my opinion. We were the only people in the place, and when we walked in the two employees acted as if we had just interrupted their entire day. Not wanting to answer any questions about food choices with the specials and being extremely rude. After we paid and sat down one employee headed outside to smoke and the other sat the entire time at a table. We didn’t even want to ask for salt and pepper. It was a terrible experience for the second time and I believe I won’t come back just to be made to feel like I’m being a nuisance while spending $50 of my hard earned money. Do better Spankys and bring back that old friendly familiar if you want to stay in business.

I understand inflation and paying to be in the center of downtown but HOW is this place charging so much for average-at-best food and ice cream? I would get ice cream here often if 1 scoop (literally) wasn’t like $6. Might as well go to Cold Stone or pick up Ben&Jerrys lol. Food wise there are MANY better places around to eat for the same price point. PLUS the workers seem like they borderline hate everyone 😩

Great shakes

I do not even want to give this place a star, my friend and I stopped in for some ice-cream. The girl behind the counter, you could tell that she was not even listening to us, I was asking about a flavor, she shrugged her shoulders and said i dont know. I got a chocolate malt, that did not taste anything like a malt, my friend order cookie dough ice cream, which turned out was really vanilla, when were trying to talk to her she grabbed her purse and headed for the door and we asked again about the flavors, she just stared at us. The old lady in the back told her to just go and don't worry about it. They were so rude and and basically ignored us. Terrible place, never go back.

Needs a refresh. Kind of a depressing place. No atmosphere and not a soul there but us.

This place is a gem! We really enjoyed strolling through downtown, grabbing ice cream from Spanky's, and stopping by the park. They offer an excellent variety of flavors, convenient parking right out front, and the staff were friendly and welcoming. We loved it so much we went twice this week—once with my kids and again with my sister and her family. The ice cream was absolutely delicious, and the toppings were a fun bonus for the kids. You can enjoy indoor seating or take your treats along for a walk through the charming downtown area.

I hate to write a bad review. Especially about service. I work in the service industry as a server so I understand how people can be needy but… this was my first time here and I walked in and was looking at the menu. I had asked what brand their sliced ham was. The older women behind the counter snared at us and said “ what do you mean what kinda ham is it?” I said you know like is it boars head or food lion brand? She responded with “well I don’t know what brand it is but I can tell you it ain’t boars head”
She said it with a sarcastic chuckle like I asked something absurd. Okay whatever. I let it roll off my back. Considering this place is called spankys deli I had asked if we could get the meat sliced thin on our sandwich’s. She then said no and chucked sarcastically again and said you get what we give you.
I’m not exactly sure what the attitude was for. I almost walked out without my sandwich after I had already paid for it. It’s unfortunate because I definitely would have come back if it wasn’t for her nasty attitude. How dare I ask what brand the ham is.

Best ice cream in all of Rowan. It was great would recommend.

I totally love comming here ! The lemon ice cream is freaking awesome! i miss spanky's! no one makes lemon ice cream or key lime pie better!

First time visit. My mouth watered when I saw pastrami on rye, thinking pastrami piled over an inch high.
Didn't happen. At best there were two thin slices of meat on two burnt pieces of pumpernickel rye with palm full of potato chips for $11.33 including tax. Drank water

Served with a side of malicious compliance. Ordered & paid for a chicken salad sandwich, received a literal salad instead. I bet if I ordered an ice cream cone, I’d get it in a cup😄 Overheard the staff talking about “treating” certain customers by their appearance. Giving them poor service as well. Explains a whole lot.

Had the displeasure of stopping in to get ice cream. First off sorry we had to disturb the two very unpleasant young ladies who had to stand up and wait on us. Worse yet, an elderly woman wanted a half scoop of two different flavors and you’d think she asked for a small miracle. Finally my husband told the young lady just give her one scoop of each I’m paying. I personally will never go back. There is a very cool old school Dairy Queen just up the road.

Ice cream and sandwich was good but the attitude was TERRIBLE!!!!! The two ladies acted like they were beyond MISERABLE to serve us or anyone that came in after us! We will NOT return, I would hate to be a bother at a place of business.
