Our monthly supper group, 8 of us, went to Newman’s at the Orchard Inn in Saluda tonight. We all agreed it was one of the best suppers we’ve had. It began when our waiter introduced himself - it was Chris, our favorite waiter from 131 Main - he has relocated! I had the grilled Caesar salad with white anchovies- delicious. 2nd course was grilled shrimp w/ fried green tomato. The shrimp was perfectly cooked and tomato was delicious. Entree was Parmesan crusted swordfish- perfectly prepared. Dessert was house made vanilla ice cream w/ a shot of expresso. Very nice ending. My meal was paired with Madonna Riesling - my my, so good! I highly recommend Newman’s for fine dining. photo is the view from our table. A perfectly delightful evening!
My wife and I spent 2 nights at the Orchard Inn and had dinner 1 night in their in house restaurant, Newman’s. The venue and the view are really nice and we sat outside in a closed in space that was very pleasant. The wine list is very nice with a nice selection of most every wine along with local beers. The dinner has a set price, w/o gratuity or tax for a 4 course meal. We both had the steelhead trout which was very good. I had a squash and cinnamon soup that was also very good. We both enjoyed an apple strudel for dessert. The service was excellent and we would certainly return.
Our recent visits to Newman's were a continuation of what is always a great experience. We have dined at Newman's numerous times and are never disappointed, We look forward to each visit and each experience seems to be better than the last one. Making a single selection from the alternatives for each course is always a challenging and difficult task, but an enjoyable one, New choices based on seasonal availability provide continuing variety. The wine list is outstanding and Marc keeps it interesting with new additions. Last, but not least, the entire experience is facilitated by an outstanding wait staff each of whom is knowledgeable and helpful.
My husband and I stayed at the Orchard Inn and greatly enjoyed our dinner at Newsman's restaurant on the beautiful terrace there. There is a prix fixe menu with at least three different choices in each of the five categories offered, from appetizers to dessert, and each one we tried was exceptional. The wine list is very good and the service excellent. Do not go to Saluda without making a dinner reservation here!
We visited Newman’s for dinner and it was exquisite. The restaurant seating is located inside the Orchard Inn and you get a positive vibe the minute you walk in. Southern hospitality is on full throttle from the welcoming porch with rocking chairs to the two Boxers that greet you in the parking lot. Dinner consists of a four course meal with an assortment of choices ranging from local duck to fresh seafood. Dinner here is an experience in the finer things of life.
We had dinner at Newmans in mid-August. The food was delicious! The grilled romaine caesar salad was the best I've ever had. We had the seafood and angel hair dish and the grilled filet of beef and both were amazing. Sauces were perfect with rich flavors and just the right amount. I highly recommend the espresso creme brûlée and also the chocolate mousse. Ask for a table on the back open porch, if you can. Views of the mountain and the flower garden are very pretty. It's a prix-fixe meal for $74/person not including drinks or gratuity, but the food and view lived up to the price. Service was excellent as well!
We are lucky enough to live under 20 minutes from the Orchard Inn and its fabulous Newman’s Restaurant, and though we are spoiled for choice in the NC Piedmont, we consider Newman’s as a true jewel. You will not find a finer and more beautiful location for a leisurely, upscale, and thoughtfully created and plated fine dining experience. The locally sourced, seasonal ingredients for every dish shine through every course of every meal. Marc and Marianne and their son Adam could not be more welcoming, and their wine list is always impressive. Dinners are offered Thursday through Saturday, and their Sunday morning/afternoon brunches are equally impressive. If you’re visiting western North Carolina, be sure to put the beautiful Orchard Inn on your “must stay” list...and if you live nearby, you’re lucky, indeed, to have Newman’s Restaurant as what should be your first choice in fine dining.
