The people who work here are incredibly nice. They didn't have something on their menu that I wanted, so they gave me free chips which was super nice and not necessary. What I got was excellent, and I was able to eat it in the park in Saluda which was a wonderful little picnic.
First time in Salina Sad to report not serving food but guy was playing piano and gal made recommendation of eating at The Purple Onion. We went ... food and atmosphere were delightful. We will be back. Thanks.
Allen, the proprietor of this great little gem was a generous and honest man. (My hubby wanted me to add that). We stopped in on a whim because the “reuben@ caught our eye and we had just come from apple picking so we were HUNGRY!Talking with Allen was great and I think we met a new friend! I also purchased a beautiful piece of artwork from his artist friendAllen, we”ll be in touch! I also have one word for you——- MERCHANDISING.I wish I had a Blue Squirell tshirt or a hat. ?
Great little cafe in a picturesque small NC town. Make sure you stop in for lunch.
Excellent! We had the Reuben sandwich. Each ingredient by itself is quality and delicious. When assembled on a sandwich and grilled it's outstanding!
Simple menu filled with delicious options, made with high quality ingredients.
Great service. A very welcoming atmosphere. Great food. Our first time in Saluda.
At first glance you may think it is too small and the food will probably be average at best. Surprisingly, the food was excellent. We had "The Rachael" sandwich and it was leading the band at "Awesomeville". While many may deduct points for the size of the cafe being so small, or that you order from a limited menu, or that you go back outside to enter the eating area, or that the wait time from order to receiving the food was a little longer than a typical restaurant, none of that mattered once your palate encountered the sandwich. The chef makes each order one at a time, He is an artist when it comes to bringing all the flavors together. That is worth the wait. And to think we almost passed by this wonderful experience. We will definitely be going back in the very near future. Also, the eating area is dog friendly. They even have a water bowl for the pet out and welcome your pet.
Average across the board. Reuben was the best of our 3 sandwiches/wraps. Service was fine, ordered at counter and paid and then found a table. Nothing I would return for but it filled our lunch need.
The Rueban sandwich is amazing!

Don't order the cheeseburger because it's not Burger it looks like whole food with oatmeal and if I could give a- one I was out of cornbread on Wednesday
Someday we will be back! Had the best bbq chicken wrap! Friendly hospitality!
My best friend and her husband were visiting from Alabama and had planned to meet my husband and I in Saluda for tubing and lunch. Mother Nature nixed the tubing, and we were struggling to find lunch options. Apparently, many restaurants in Saluda are closed Tuesdays, and even Wednesdays too, because of staffing issues. The Blue Squirrel looked closed, but my husband checked to make sure. The owner, Alan, was prepping for tomorrow but kindly offered to make us pizzas. We felt bad intruding because he was technically closed, but his sincere kindness won us over. My friend and I split the pepperoni pizza, and our husbands split the Mediterranean pizza. Both were delicious, and we appreciated Alan’s advice to not order our own. He promised to make us another if the two were not enough. He was correct! Alan is small town hospitality at its finest. He clearly loves what he does and even let a few other weary travelers sneak in for a bite. Don’t Miss this gem if you are visiting the area!
The owner of this little gem is a kind generous soul. The Reuben was delicious! Definitely will be back:)) Thankful for small business owners like this one. Definitely go!
Blue squirrel cafe is a wonderful place to eat for lunch in Saluda! Alan is a super nice guy and makes very fresh, delicious food. I've only had the wraps so far but both have been so good. His Italian wrap is my favorite Italian ever! You can sit inside or on the spacious porch and enjoy downtown as well as a tasty lunch. Maybe you'll get lucky and hear some piano tunes! ♥️
