The restaurant's decor is beautiful and relaxing at the same time with absolutely stunning views from the deck at the waterfront. The menu included many Staples you expect to see but also a variety of unique dishes. I had a spinach and strawberry salad along with a mojito. both were delicious. can't wait to go back to try more items. I also wanted to give an extra shout out to Tess and Eric from the kitchen, who personalized a dessert for me for my birthday. it was gorgeous and delicious. They went out of their way to make my birthday lunch special.
Great Food and Great Service, we'll definitely be back. Thanks again to the kitchen staff- Tess, Ashton and Erik
I currently work in the kitchen for this establishment and all us cooks in the back strive to provide the best meals for our customers. We have a beautiful view, great menu choices and our seafood is made to order
This has always been a favorite place - sitting on the covered porch enjoying the food and the beautiful view. Yesterday was such a disappointment. Our view was a caterpillar machine on the dock. The plastic tablecloth was dirty as was the siding. Probably from the construction outside? The carpet is filthy, and the ceiling is old looking plywood. No fans to help with the flies. We waited a long time for drinks. Bartender could use a tutorial on cocktails. The food was good, as always, but when you ask a server to please omit one item, and dish arrives with it, that’s annoying.
This spot is good for lunch with a nice view of the water. Reasonably priced. The food was very good, but the service was extremely slow. Waited for 45 min. to get our food. The grilled Mahi fish tacos were great. Turkey club was also pretty good, as my daughter said. The sweet potato fries were waffle cut and so good. Overall the food was good, just be mindful of the slow service, if you are pressed for time.
When you can look at a plate of food and tell it is not good, so can they! My friend ordered the grilled chicken with their sauce. The chicken was very tough and the gravy base they used was in a bowl that looked like jelly. Brought out the wrong sides with the meal. They corrected that, but less than par taste and over cooked asparagus. I am a local and have eaten there many times. The price for dining is expensive and I paid the full bill minus $2 with my dissatisfaction with meal and gave a generous tip. This was my friend’s first visit. I was so disappointed I took her there.
FOOD was absolutely terrible and dry. This is why i would tather stay home and cook, that way you know it was done right.
Delicious Po Boy sandwich and fries!
Very disappointed. We were here years ago not that bad. Tonight I feel like we were robbed, spent $100.00 for my wife and I. Ordered crab dip for a appetizer apparently they forgot to put the crab crab in the dip. Dinner came to quick my meal was warm at the most, my wife had shrimp and grits which were over seasoned and way to salty. Serviced was rushed get you in and out as soon as possible. We spend a lot of time at our beach house through out the year. Will not be back or recommend this place to anyone.
Angels on Horseback $30, used be a very filling meal but it has been reduced to the size of an appetizer. Overcooked bacon wrap and risotto was mushy. Mahi tacos were dry and overcooked as well. I’ve been going for years but something has changed since last year. No longer a destination spot for me— and it’s my hometown!!

It happened by chance, we stopped in this small town setting up a weekly summertime festival. The streets were closed, so we parked and made the walk. We smelled the mast amazing fried fish and asked where it was coming from. They accommodated our party of 12 and did not disappoint with any dish. The food was amazing, the service that of a first date … and the prize amazed us all. The most amazing part, they did not assume to auto add the tip … coming from Florida and with a group this size, that was amazing. They earned 30%.
3 stars = average and that sums up our overall meal. The two main drivers were bland (little to no seasoning) and food temperature was inconsistent (lukewarm, cold items that should’ve been served hot). Staff were friendly. Good selection of wines, all a little on the pricier side. Above average = calamari, so flavorful, balsamic glaze and banana peppers were nice pop of acidity to balance the light and crispy fried calamari! Fried flounder, battered and fried beautifully and perfectly seasoned and cooked. Shrimp & grits, the friend that got this said it was in their best top 5! The crab dip was also a solid choice - it was the only thing that was served piping hot. Below average = she crab soup, bland and cold. Angels on Horseback, the sauce tasted the same as the she crab soup…bland and cold, the risotto was mushy and overall the dish was bland (thank goodness for the balsamic glaze). Blackened chicken alfredo + pasta arrabbiata, bland and luke warm; the alfredo sauce broke and was very dry. The chicken looked like precooked and prepackaged from the grocery store.
I have grown up in Eastern North Carolina (I am +70) and know good seafood. This was NOT good seafood. In fact, it was the worst fish of any kind that I have ever put in my mouth. It was supposed to be flounder and maybe so, but it had obviously been frozen and refrozen an unknown number of times. It was mushy almost the texture of oatmeal. I could not eat it. This is the first time in literally decades that this has happened to me. I nicely let the server know the situation. The server was fine. However, the manager nor the chef ever came out to determine my concerns/issues. (I was still charged the full price.) We have owned a house nearby for 23 years and have family and friends nearby. Saltwater Grill made two mistakes tonight; first a quality mistake and second a marketing mistake. Lot of future losses over a $24 plate of fish. Never shall we return. PS, my friend's fish tacos were not good either. He ate only two of the three tacos, because they were not good. He is a big guy and a big eater.
The views from this restaurant is just about the best thing they have to offer. I’ve been here several times and never felt compelled to write a review before but here’s why I will now. The food was absolutely terrible. The salmon fillet I was served was at best 4.5 ounces. Thin and overcooked. When I was asked was, “medium ok” I thought heck yeah! Instead it was so hard and tough. The Asiago risotto was a salty dried clump of overcooked mush. It was plated with an icecream scoop. The sautéed spinach tasted like they used old fish grease. The spinach was lukewarm, cold risotto hubs cold mashed potatoes. The flounder I saw on my hubs plate was so densely coated in the thickest breading with random burnt spots. Idk what happened here. I guess no one Is checking the food before it goes out to the customer anymore. I was extremely disappointed. Another restaurant passing off crap food. No one in there told the chef this was garbage!? Yes I’m a trained professional Chef and I understand the dynamics in the kitchen and in running a restaurant but this was unacceptable. Saltwater Grill was a pretty good place to visit now it’s on the negative list. Again as I told the MOD I’m perfectly willing to show the staff how to prepare Risotto.
Dined at Saltwater tonight and I was really impressed with the service and the food. I opted for the Angels on Horseback - Scallops & Atlantic shrimp wrapped with bacon laid over housemade risotto and a pool of lobster veloute sauce, topped with asparagus, cold fresh crab meat, and a drizzle of balsamic glaze reduction** ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Highly recommended!! I’ll be back in town in about 3 weeks and I’m already looking forward to visiting again. I’m eyeing the grilled Mahi on my next visit.
