During my first trip to Washington, NC I stopped in at the Water Street Cafe and was pleasantly surprised. Delicious pastries, great coffee, and a friendly staff!

It was super cute inside! They have a little vintage like area with a couch and other comfy sitting. And they've got some cute retail items like homemade coasters and cards with cutesy drawings on them. They also got some cool vintage phones which was cool to look at while waiting. A couple of my siblings got food and they said it was really good (I love that they make everything with sourdough bread!!) the only thing mid I would say is the iced coffee BUT it is my first time here so I can't judge the whole drink menu. <3 I got a ginger bread iced oat milk latte. The flavoring (syrup) was good but the espresso was really weak. All in all tho, they were a really cool place to visit ??

Service was as warm and welcoming as fresh baked bread. Prices were on point for healthy and delicious food. I ordered a Caprese grilled cheese on sourdough and it came with a choice of sides (salad, soup, chips I think?) and I chose the broccoli cheese soup. It was more food than I should have eaten in one sitting. On this beautiful day many were sitting outside, but I chosen inside table. I will go back anytime I go through Washington. It would even be worth a special trip. I was so captivated by the interior that I forgot to take a picture of my food! There are stairs to climb to get inside- I don't know if there is any other access.

Vegetarian options: Cheese sandwiches, salads

Parking: There is a public parking lot next-door and also street parking.

We were in this charming old town for a wedding last night, and drove to the cafe for breakfast after reading good reviews. We were not disappointed. This is an adorable bakery/eatery on the historic waterfront, and it faces the Pamlico River. It was quiet and cozy on this dreary, drizzly morning and we had our choice of tables, each decorated with flowers, mini pumpkins, a candle, and salt and pepper grinders. There was a lively variety of art on the walls. Slowly turning ceiling fans completed the picture. My wife and I each ordered a breakfast sandwich, made with at least 2 eggs (mine fried, hers scrambled), a choice of cheeses (mine pepper jack, hers cheddar), choice of breads (we each chose the house made sourdough), and bacon on the sandwich for my wife. They were served up fresh and hot, the bread thickly cut and perfectly toasted, the yolk dripping a bit off mine, the cheese fully melted. These sandwiches were pure perfection, generously portioned, and reasonably priced. My wife also enjoyed a mug of their fresh hot coffee, which was pleasant enough but we both thought it needed to have a more robust taste and depth of flavor. The bakery cases were a little light on product this Sunday morning but there was still some variety to be had, and we decided on pre-wrapped cookies to go, which we just tried after getting home: the peanut butter chocolate chip cookies had plenty of peanut butter flavor, and the butterscotch cookies (not oatmeal) were totally killer. Both were fresh and chewy. If the weather had been nicer we may have eaten out on the front porch for a better view of the water, then strolled along the lovely riverside and gawked at the yachts moored along the way. A worthwhile stop here in Washington, NC. Will definitely come back if we're ever this way again!

We ate breakfast here twice on a long weekend visit to Washington. Good, light breakfast and coffee. They gave my dog a pup cup and we ordered an egg for her that they served in a dog bowl for her as well.

Awesome casual place by the river in downtown Washington. So bizarre that one person of many gives it one star and compares it to a previous fine dining restaurant. Its like comparing a shiny apple to sour grapes. The previous place was terrific as well but a completely different concept and menu. The previous restaurant moved across the street, and I encourage you to visit and enjoy both.

Had a wonderful bagel breakfast sandwich and got a loaf of Sourdough to go that just came out of oven. They are known for their sourdough bread. Cute cafe with a great view and great location!

Better than nothing!!! Mom & Pop… barely functional.

Only serves breakfast sandwiches and some pastries… sourdough bread is the only bakery item cooked in-house.

Will not be returning. Pass if you have any other option… Giddy Up Coffee Shop is my go-to… they are awesome.

The owners blame the customer for their poor offering and dysfunctional service… Parley’s did an awesome business here… what a sad legacy that these folks are giving the place.

Nice place for coffee and breakfast sandwiches, had breakfast here and the sandwich was very filling...lunch on the other hand ...need less bread and more meat for your what y'all charge and your southwestern egg rolls need more filling...corn,beans and green with some chicken.. dipping sauce should be Salsa. IMO.
