Revising my review from 5 starts to 3 stars. This place used to be the top choice for us when visiting the area. However over the past year or so, the food quality has dropped significantly. Is it still good? Yeah. But it’s certainly not what it used to be and tastes more “generic” than it used to

We tried this for lunch. What a find! Excellent, friendly service, very delicious food. Went with the suggestions from our delightful waitress. Onion Soup was some of the best I've ever had! Can't wait to go back.

Really great menu. Quick and food was delicious. Easy for lunch with young kids. Everyone was friendly and it was quite clean with nice views of downtown Waynesville. Easy parking close by. Great overall experience!

Amazing day date lunch! Hubby had the Meatloaf and I had the flounder sandwich with onion soup as a starter. From the drinks at the bar, Highlander Stout and the Amelia cocktail, to the soup, main dishes, and crème brule to go, everything was delicious, beautifully presented, and excellently seasoned. Our server, Jeff, was patient when I couldn’t decide what to order, conscientious, and very friendly. A great dining experience. We will be back, again and again!

We like Sweet Onion. Food is decent, drinks are great… We have a large family and when we go, there are 11 of us. My granddaughter turns 5 today. She picked sweet onion for dinner. Their policy this time of year is no party over 8. I told them her heart is set on sweet onion and what if we book two separate tables. They do not accept split reservations. I asked if we could walk in at the non-prime time, like 4 pm would we be able to be seated, separately. I told her we could try and if they could not accommodate us, we could go somewhere else. She said .. you can try. She seemed quite irritated by my requests and questions, and I think that is what bothered me. I guess Sweet Onion has so much business that they don’t mind losing customers by making them feel like a bother. I previously owned a very busy restaurant in the Chicago area, so I understand completely, the demands on restaurants during the holiday season. The success of our business was based on making our guests feel important. Honestly, I have never felt this from Sweet Onion. I have never felt a warm welcome any time that I have gone there.

Our son and daughter in-law suggested we go here for dinner. They were correct to say the food is delicious! My husband and I started with the sweet onion soup, tasty and delicious.
Our server Alisa suggested the meatloaf for my husband. Rob said it was really good and just the right portion. I had the Pot roast. Wow! No seasoning required. Tender, juicy and full of flavor. I'm looking forward to coming back in the spring to try your lunch menu and explore the town some more.
And a big thank you for having a gluten free menu. It's nice to see our son enjoy a good dinner, knowing he won't get sick.

Absolutely terrible customer service! They take walk-ins, but refuse to add 1 person to a reservation. Take your money somewhere else and don't waste it here.

Cute and delicious! Stopped in while on vacation and was extremely pleased. Great atmosphere, wonderful server, delicious food. You must try the pimento cheese and fried cracker appetizer as well as the chicken and cheese grits. Very different and very delicious.

Really good restaurant find in the town of Waynesville. I had the ceasar salad with grilled chicken and my wife had a chicken salad. I started with the soup of the day, a tomato bisque that was incredible. Next up creamed corn with jalapeño and melted cheese. Finally the salads were fresh and the chicken excellent. Will visit again.
