Everything was amazing from start to finish. The food was amazing, everyone was so friendly, and my family & I left stuffed and extremely satisfied. Out of our entire vacation, this restaurant was the favorite by everyone! My only recommendation would be to make reservations as they do book up fairly quick.

This is a delicious place to eat in downtown Waynesville. The restaurant is right off Main Street with lots of walkable shops that you can browse while waiting for a table.

I ordered the Thai Chicken Bowl. Very good, ate every bite.

The homemade biscuits were a nice surprise and yummy that is server to your table.

Next time I am in the area, I will be returning!

Went here for late lunch with friends. Our spouses had heard of their crab cakes from the wives and wanted to try them for themselves. They were not disappointed! They were superb, mostly lump crab with a tasty Dijon mayo dressing. The menu had changed slightly from last time incorporating more sandwiches for a lunchtime crowd. We all ordered sandwiches of different kinds, and ended up bringing some home. They too were all delicious. My spouses had the pot roast sandwich, whilst our friends shared a sourdough chicken sandwich. I had the breaded chicken on a brioche bun. Their prices had gone up significantly since our visit last year, the crab cakes went from $9 to $14 ! which was a bit of a shock, but considering the quality and cost of crab now we understood the price hike.
We left totally satisfied.

First time here. Friends birthday, 5 people.
Food is delicious. Every dish. Blackened trout, side of mash & coleslaw. Spicy which I like. But the size of the sides is ridiculously small. Literally golf ball size sides. About 2 heaping tablespoons.

2 Friends had the pasta special, creamy mushroom sauce with lump crab meat. Wonderful.
Other friend had NY strip steak special. Cooked perfectly and was great.

Blackberry margaritas are superb, blackberry balsamic salad dressing is incredible. Porter beer on tap-awesome!

Table comes with a basket of 6 biscuits & butter. Our server was Kelsey. She was lovely.

My complaints are that we were squeezed into a table clearly made for 4 and we were 5 people, 2 on the larger side. It's an extremely popular place which makes it a bit crowded. A bit noisy. Lastly, I had hoped that since they knew it was a birthday perhaps they could have brought the birthday girl a little dessert. But nothing to dissuade us from going back. Hope the managers will consider the portion size of sides

Bartender knows how to make a good lemon drop martini. Trout was delicious. The meatloaf was real good. I am real picky about meatloaf. The okra was lightly breaded and had a good flavor. The crème brûlée was just ok. The custard tasted more like pudding. It was much better when you made it in the dessert boats with real fruit on top. We would not. order that again. This was not a good change.

We had a great time at sweet onion. I would recommend getting reservations ahead of time because the restaurant is small and can get busy quick. Our server was super friendly and attentive to us even though we were in the back of the restaurant. Sweet onion soup of course was great as well as the pimento cheese, salad and bread that was provided. I was a little disappointed with the entrees. Two of us got steak and they were not cooked the way we asked. They were still edible so we kept them anyway. Mashed potatoes were a little dry and the crab cakes did not have a ton of flavor. Would have been nice to have a little something to dip it in. Overall good experience though and would definitely go back!

We sat at the bar, and our server, Brook, was attentive, but during lunch, she was also waiting tables outside the bar area, so her availability was split. We had the onion straws, and they were delicious along with very tasty old-fashioned cocktails. My wife had the Cesar salad with chicken, and I had the lunch special, pot roast sandwich. I swapped my side for the French onion soup (for a slight upcharge). Everything was excellent.

The Sweet Onion is a hidden gem in Waynesville, North Carolina. They offer excellent food and a fine dining experience. On a side street down the hill from Main Street, this gem is busy all the time. We tried on our last trip here and preferred not to wait 30 minutes so we went elsewhere. This trip we slipped in on the off hours (4:00 PM) and waited only 5 minutes. We were lucky because there was a line by the time we finished.
My husband and I each ordered the Catfish, one was fried, the second was blackened. Both were delicious, however we both found the blackened to be a little on the spicy hot side. It was still moist and delicious.

We have only lived in Waynesville for a few months, and this is our favorite restaurant. The food has been excellent every time we have visited. My favorite was a special of the day, which was a wild mushroom ravioli with wild mushroom sauce and shrimp drizzled with balsamic. I wish it were on the menu daily. So good! We have had beef dishes, pasta dishes, sandwiches, and more from the menu, and everyone has enjoyed every meal we have had there!
