I've been coming to the General Store for years. Regina is the kind of business owner that loves to get to know her customers. My wife has a remote job, and she was looking for a part time job to get out of the house and into the community, and the owner hired her in a heartbeat. Since then, many of the employees have become good personal friends.Ice cream is cheap and good. There's all kinds of old timey candy, soda, and toys that we had when we were younger. If you're in town it's definitely worth a stop in.

Like Jessica’s post from months ago, yesterday the two young people behind the counter were great, but the older woman with them was both weirdly rude, apparently thinking I’m not from the south, and made what a reasonable person would consider to be a racist comment about the owners of a nearby restaurant.Assuming she sees these reviews: 1) I’m from the deep woods of Appalachia, purveyor of bad assumptions; 2) Your neighbors are originally from the Caucasus Mountains, literally the source of the term “Caucasian”. Ethnically, they are more pure blooded Caucasians than you likely are…2) Thanks to the owner (Regina?) for replying. Since she seems to have missed basic etiquette growing up, I recommend she try taking some classes on the topic now.Examples may make things clearer for her. In less than a minute, I witnessed her make customers uncomfortable with inappropriate comments about their appearance. One case was where she went out of her way to get the attention of a tall, masculine guy, then she called him “pretty” in front of his female companion. She then referred to her business neighbors as “those people”, within a comment questioning the edibility of the food they serve.I’ve eaten at Everest Kitchen, they serve excellent food, plus they were careful to tailor the Nepali spice levels to our local palates.On the other hand, the ice cream (with added hair according to some reviews) sold at the General Store is so so, and the sodas and candies look like mostly repackaged items from a Walmart or Cracker Barrel.A business owner with a lick of common sense would be thankful she has at least two excellent restaurants nearby, helping to attract business to her store, rather than making negative comments about them.Weirding out her customers with what I assume was either inappropriate flirting, or some odd form of ridicule, is also not a good way to conduct business.

Excellent service, delicious ice cream, love sitting down and seeing all the delightful products. I enjoy socializing with locals, Wendell General Store has a marvelous selection of everything imaginable. Wonderful, kind, knowledgeable staff who are always ready to help or answer a question. I've been a patron for years and will continue!
