We were looking for a good local restaurant after finishing up a baseball tournament and stumbled on American Hero. My kids liked their kids subs (ham and American and pepperoni and provolone). My husband had the chicken, bacon and cheese and said it was okay. My Philly steak was amazing! Just what we needed! The staff was friendly and patient with us as we figured out what we wanted. It was also affordable for a family of four at $36. This was a good find!

This happened 4 times.. I ordered the classic cheesesteak mushrooms onions provolone cheese red sauce on side....one time it was all onions and they put American cheese on it after I pointed out that this is the wrong.. Thay put provolone on top of sandwich they put the red sauce on the sandwich which turned it in to a sloppy goopy soggy mess... I asked him to open wrap the sandwich even so the heat and steam could release from the sandwich and not soak into it the people in the store don't even know what that means every sandwich that I have gotten at the store in the past year has been wrong I will never eat there again.... On top of that the display case that holds their meat and cheeses are not separated in any pans or dishes they just throw it in the case.. cross-contaminating everything... And let me tell you this I called the health department they guy that works this area is incompetent... Beware of the food that you get in loris South Carolina... Food poisoned more than once in this town

Wonderful Home Cooking! WoW! Was our first time and thought I was walking into just a Sub Shop, What a surprise to see the Down Home Southern Cooking meat and veggies! I was more than impressed! WoW the best Collard Greens I have ever had! Understand, this is "REAL" Southern cooking, with the veggies seasoned to perfection with I believe fatback and I'm guessing ham hock, salt and pepper and all the secret special things that make real Southern home cooking "REAL Southern home cooking"!Simply WONDERFUL! Same thing for the cabbage and the mac & cheese was as good as Grandmas and thats saying something as Grandma retired from cooking Southern food professionally! The pork chop & gravy was so tasty.With a meal this good we had to try the desert and the chocolate cake was rich and satisfying!My wife had the Gyro and onion rings ( I took a bite ) and that was very good as well. Then you have the nice folks working the place! Y'all made us feel right at home and we thank all of you for that. VERY NICE PEOPLE cooking and serving and just being so nice and friendly. Made us feel like family!Was also nice to find Sundrop Soda as it took my back 30 years when I worked in Gastonia NC as I can't find Sundrop at home.My wife and I promised each other on the way home today that next time we are in Whiteville we will always make the time to eat lunch with these fine folks again.The food was so good we may drive the 65 miles from home just for lunch as the mac -n- cheese alone is worth the drive.If in Whiteville YOU MUST NOT MISS THIS PLACE! Wonderful down home food and subs served with a smile! Thanks for a great lunch folks!We will be back!

It’s too bad this place is branded as a sandwich shop when the southern food, and matching hospitality, is what you should go for. I had smothered pork chop with rice and collard greens. It’s the real deal.
Their home cooked hot bar is filled with so many delicious options. They execute customer service . Mama's and grandma's cooking is hard to find ....they have it here.

Seems like no taste much to the sandwiches and I have tried several different kinds. They need some flavor. 1 small slice of cake is $5.00. I know desert is expensive everywhere but it did not taste fresh.
