“This is a hidden gem that has been in business for many years. I remembered going here as a little girl and the food has always been good. It's good to still have places to go to that bring back good childhood memories. Places like Chicken Kitchen make coming home worth the visits.“

“Last fried chicken plate was too salty to eat. Chicken and vegs. Today got a chicken filet sandwich on moldy bun and customer service was terrible. The lady at the window was talking through a closed window and I could barely hear her and she wasn't friendly at all. I don't plan on going back.“

“We had been debating on going here because of the previous reviews. Decided to check it out for ourselves. Dined in for lunch buffet at 2pm. I thought to question if that was the right time for freshness. After seated, went to buffet and was pleasantly surprised to see all was fresh and hot. Food was great. Point to make as per other reviews....yes you drink out of a red solo cup, you take a Styrofoam plate for the buffet and you eat with a very sturdy plastic fork. I personally don't have a problem using these items. It didn't affect my enjoyment of my meal or the quality of great food. My only critique would be on the ice cream that is there for a dessert. I prefer the individual ice cream servings for sanitary purposes, but as of late have noticed many places going to big containers and you dip what you want out of those containers. The owner and staff were very nice folks and engaged us with conversation. We will be going there more frequently. Each person has their own experience, but remember that sometimes what you put out is what you get back.“

“Deadwood in Bear Grass, NC is truly a hidden gem in Martin County. If you’re not local, you might drive right past it and never know what’s tucked away there. I remember hearing about it years ago but had never visited. A friend hosted an event there a couple of years ago, and I was amazed at how beautifully it was decorated—this was right after Christmas, and the holiday décor was still up and absolutely stunning.
When I returned again recently, I noticed even more details that make this place special. From the outside, it leaves you curious, but once you cross the little wooden bridge, it opens into a space that really leaves you in awe. There’s a train you can ride, charming outdoor seating areas, lights and decorations throughout, and a peaceful little pond that adds to the atmosphere. There’s also a cozy coffee bar and meeting space that’s perfect for brunch or small gatherings, along with the main restaurant that can accommodate groups of all sizes.
The salad bar is excellent with plenty of fresh options to choose from, and the food has been consistently delicious. The brisket and baked chicken are finger-licking good! This was actually my first time getting the brisket because it tends to sell out quickly—and now I understand why. Everything I’ve tried here has been great so far.
The wait staff are friendly, and the hostess at checkout is especially sweet. She keeps little candies at the front and encourages guests to grab a handful on their way out, which is such a simple but thoughtful touch.
It was a bit cool inside during my visit, but the fireplace adds a nice cozy feel. Overall, every experience I’ve had here has been pleasant, and I’ll definitely be back again. This is one of those special places you almost want to keep a secret—but it’s too good not to share.“
