Lovely dinner experience last night! Food and wines were excellent! Servers were very friendly and attentive. Will be back again!!!
Where to begin?!! I started with an amazing blueberry mule mocktail which I didn't want to end! For my entree, I had the sun-dried tomato roasted chicken with roasted potatoes and baby carrots! It was awesome!! I finished with the profiteroles....delectable!
Great meal. Excellent, attentive service. We had not been in several years. We will definitely go back. Glad to see some no -seafood items on the menu.
The atmosphere is excellent and well suited for an intimate outing. The wait staff was knowledgeable and attentive to our needs. Food quality is very good. I would recommend Caprice Bistro and plan to return. P.S. The bar makes a good Old Fashioned.
This was out second time dining here and once again we had an amazing experience. This time we were seated upstairs which has a soho vibe. We will definitely be returning.
Having gone to Caprice many times under the prior ownership, several things were apparent this time around. First, the portions have shrunk dramatically. We had two orders of muscles that were about a third the size of what they were before. The service has deteriorated noticeably as well. I won't hold it against Caprice that no one speaks French there anymore. But it took forever to get our drinks, and just as long to get a tiny portion of bread, all before our order was taken. Then we were brought the wrong dishes, much to the dismay of the neighboring table, whose order we got, and who had to wait another 15 minutes for their food to be remade. And all of this comes with a hefty pricetag. A couple rounds of drinks, a salad and two orders of muscles came to $125 (with tip). Considering the many new options in Wilmington, it's unfortunate to see that this old favorite has fallen so far behind.
Caprice Bistro was a delightful discovery in Wilmington. My wife and I were visiting on an overnight trip from Raleigh, hoping to have a good meal and visit Wrightsville Beach for some winter sun. I originally decided to make a reservation at Caprice after seeing that they offered one of my favorite dishes, Beef Bourguignon. We had taken a sunset stroll along the riverfront and were pleased to see that Caprice Bistro on Market Street was just steps from the waterfront. The street was festively lit with holiday lights. The best dining location is upstairs. The vibe was established with eclectic music in the background, the icy shake of a cocktail mixer, and intriguing artwork on the brick walls. We enjoyed a cozy table next to the window overlooking the street. We opened with sparkling wine, a Cremant for me and Le Toast D'Hiver, a cocktail made with Brut, Grand Marinier, and a Demerara sugar cube, for my wife. This was accompanied by Crepe Caprice, delicate crepes filled with spinach, Gruyere, Parmesan, and Brie, topped with a mushroom Sauce. I ordered the Beef Bourguignon with French Pinot Noir, and my wife opted for the Salmon au Vert, a pistachio-crusted salmon. She enjoyed a glass of white Bordeaux with her dish. The Bourguignon was delicious, although my preference is for large cubes of beef, rather than the larger cuts that were served. That allows for more of a stew-like dish. The taste, though, was certainly spot-on. The service was outstanding, and the meal was delicious. Yes, we topped it off with a nice flourless chocolate cake for dessert. Two minor suggestions: First, the glassware should be upgraded to Riedel or something similar to match their well-curated wine list. Second, we enjoyed the artisan-baked bread, but it is even better served warm. All-in-all, this was a great restaurant discovery. We shall return!
Lovely ambitions good food. The specialty seafood stew Was filled with a wonderful selection of seafood but way too dslty
The food and service were as expected exceptional. Our waiter, Tim, was attentive and coordinated our service without a flaw. We were a party of 7 celebrating a birthdate, and each of our selected main course was spot on. The best desert was the creme brulee . We enjoy our meal, and no way we're we rushed. Thanks to the entire staff. you all
What a disappointment. I had high hopes for Caprice Bistro based on reviews and my love of French cuisine, but the experience fell far short. About a year ago I received a $250 gift card to Caprice. Due to my travel schedule, I finally made a reservation on November 7 for December 31, 2025 (NYE) at 7:00 PM so I could treat friends to a nice night out. We arrived early, expecting to enjoy a drink upstairs. The bar was busy, which we anticipated, but service immediately felt awkward. After ordering two cocktails and a water, the bartender acknowledged us but proceeded to make several other drinks without explanation. A simple “it'll be a few minutes” would have gone a long way. Instead, we stood there confused before sitting back down. The drinks arrived right as we were called to our table about 10 minutes later. The table itself was lovely—cozy, quiet, and probably the best spot in the restaurant. Unfortunately, that was the highlight of the evening. We were presented with a New Year's Eve prix fixe menu with no explanation. When I asked about the regular menu (which we had already reviewed and chosen from), I was told only the fixed menu was available. This was frustrating, especially since the reservation was made nearly two months prior with no notice of a forced menu. The prix fixe was $65 per person for one starter, one entrée, and a predetermined dessert. With four people, plus drinks, tax, and tip, the bill quickly exceeded what my gift card would cover—something that wouldn't have happened with the regular menu. The starter options were limited. The onion soup we wanted wasn't available. I chose the pork cheek stew (good), while the salads were basic and lightly dressed. The lobster bisque arrived barely warm and had to be sent back, returning noticeably reheated. Service was slow throughout. Bread had to be requested twice. Entrées arrived about an hour in. My coq-au-vin and the short ribs were good, but the salmon was clearly overcooked. There were

Great place to celebrate New Year...efficient service...nice pre fixe menu...price was consistent with meal quality and nice drink menu
I have been a patron of The Caprice for over 20 years. I have never had anything but great food and professional service, until December 30, 2025. The waiter was put off by every request, we never were able to order any entrees - because he was not around. Finally we just asked for the check. The crepes normally has a beautiful mushroom sauce -- we received a cheese quesadilla. The mussels portion was very reduced and had none of the wonderful wine/herb broth. The bread was good as always, but we only had a sample. I understood when the prior owners retired and sold to a new restaurant group - things would change - but never did i think the place would be run into the ground.
Our waiter wasn't very friendly. At the end he told us the restaurant had been purchased by another owner so maybe he wasn't happy. It took a really long time to get a crêpe. Which is good once we got it. . The family next to us said it had been great for 20 years until the ownership changed.
I'll start with the negative: The beef in the pricey beef bourguignon : what is supposed to be "slow-cooking tough cuts of beef until they are fork-tender" was extremely tough and took a lot of effort to cut through with the supplied serrated steak knife. I left half of the meat due to the unappealing chewy gristle. Not that it makes it much worse, but there were only potatoes with the meat.. normally the recipe includes several vegetables. The onions in the pricey onion soup seemed barely cooked, like that dish was also rushed. The positive: Service was excellent and friendly Atmosphere and decor were excellent My wife's savory crepe was excellent Would have complained then and there, but it was a special event meal during the holiday and didn't want to spoil the evening for my wife. I feel cheated by the restaurant.
They were short-staffed, so service was slower than usual albeit understandably. They were packed—every table FULL, so the noise was louder than usual—also. Nonetheless, it was festive, and the pistachio encrusted salmon au vert was exceptional—the best anywhere. We knew folxs at three of the tables—and met new friends who were seated next to us, so there was a strong sense of community-energy. We started with escargot in Roquefort sauce and wrapped with a delicious French Kiss (not our regular Floating Island, which is delicious, too). Thank you to the staff for the sweet Happy Anniversary card waiting for us at our table. 🥂
