We ate from the vegetarian and vegan menu. Our server was considerate and guided us well. The street corn dip and the tomato bisque were my favorite. The noodle bowl was nice. The vegan tacos were delicious. Kids loved the beyond burger and fries.

My 1 star for the food goes out specifically to the worst Mac & cheese I’ve ever had. Everyone else seemed to enjoy their other meals, but their $9 Mac & Cheese was legit just pasta shells soaked in pasta water with some unmelted Parmesan scattered about in water. Everyone with me that tried it was disgusted as well.

Castle Street Kitchen is a gem of a restaurant located in a beautiful, old building. The staff is friendly, attentive, and accommodating. They offer a plant based menu with one of the best vegan burgers that I have ever had, the Beanie Canellini. But, their veg friendly offerings don’t stop there. There is a yummy tomato pie, a portobello mushroom sandwich, and corn dip, to name a few, with remarkable sides such as their grilled squash. And, their plant based options don’t taste like an “afterthought,” the way many restaurants seem to present dishes that aren’t meat based. Castle Street’s veg meals are flavorful and delicious. They also have a nice cocktail menu that is fairly priced and generously mixed. My favorite is The Botanical, a gin based concoction with cucumbers and herbs. Definitely a restaurant that is consistently a good experience.

After several good visits over the years to this neighborhood restaurant — close to our first home when we moved to Wilmington 15 years ago — we stopped in for a couple of burgers on a quiet Wednesday. There were only two other tables seated, yet our food took nearly 30 minutes to arrive.

I had clearly ordered a portabello burger with fries and a side salad, all without cheese — I mentioned it three times to the waitress. When the food finally came, both the salad and the burger had cheese. I explained that I couldn’t eat them and requested the order be corrected. The waitress claimed I should have told her I was lactose intolerant, but I hadn't wanted to get into that — my request was simple and clear: no cheese. She also informed me, only then, that the onion rings were fried in buttermilk — something I wasn’t told when ordering, but which I hadn't planned on eating anyway.

The food was taken back, and five minutes later returned with even more cheese than before! Then the owner came out and again told us about the buttermilk in the onion rings. It was clear we’d be waiting another 20 minutes for a proper meal. Frustrated by the repeated mistakes and the long delay, my husband expressed his frustration aloud. Rather than apologizing or trying to resolve the issue, the owner scolded us and asked us to leave — an overreaction that capped off an already disappointing experience.

I’ve never been asked to leave a restaurant before, and I won’t be returning.

While searching for some gluten free options downtown this place popped up. Their gluten free hamburger bun was Delicious and even had poppy seeds! I had a burger with pork on top and the cheese melted perfectly with some bacon. Can't remember the name but I highly recommend it!

I don't know if this was just a bad night for them or what. However, my first experience from this place was a medium rare asiago melt where only a small quarter-size dot of my burger had caramelized onions on it. Not to cover up the fact that the burger was charcoal. Couldn't taste any asiago whatsoever because of the burnt patty.

Extremely disappointed. Bummer.

Food was excellent. We arrived at 11:30 and seating and services were immediate . By 12:15 the room was almost full. I noticed that service for new arrivals was also very prompt. With more people in the room, normal voice volume from more people raised the noise level in the room. We will return.

First time dining at Castle Street Kitchen. The host only gave us two seating options—by the entrance or outside—while guests who came in after us were allowed to choose freely. Thankfully, our waitress Ms. Tracy was amazing. She apologized and confirmed we should have had the same option. Her service was excellent and made up for the rocky start.

The food was really good, but I’d love to see more vegan/plant-based options. They didn’t have mushrooms at all and only offered half-and-half for creamer. I’d definitely come back—just hoping for more plant-based choices in the future!

Amazing food at a reasonable price. Everything on the menu has been great. The Mac n cheese is amazing. The Dijon chicken and Cuban sandwiches are fantastic. Breakfast here is unbeatable.
