We LOVE coming to Ellipsis! Everybody is so kind and the food is always incredible. We love that the menu is rotating and the service is always 10/10. We’ve had Sam has a bartender/server the last 3x and he’s one of our favorites in Wilmington. Always kind, always caring, and super knowledgeable!

The Ellipsis was a pleasant surprise on our 1st visit to enjoy it's Spanish tapas-inspired Mariposa menu. The food was pricey based on quantity, but about right considering the quality. Service & ambiance were excellent. My rating would be outstanding overall except for 2 shortcomings. 1. Parking is almost non existent. There is scant parking on Wilmington, NC's 3rd St. There is also a lot behind the restaurant off Greenfield, but that lot was almost full (1 empty space) at 6 PM when we were the only customers in the restaurant. Unacceptable on a rainy night. 2. The restaurant is almost inaccessible from the parking lot. Access to the front door from that lot runs over a couple of up & down staircases & through outdoor seating on the south side of the restaurant. That is doable in daylight. But, it is NOT LIT. Navigating that route in the dark was only acceptable for someone with night vision goggles! Despite these inconveniences, I would return for another of Ellipsis' rotating menus. But, there is a lot of culinary competition in Wilmington. Not much need to return to an establishment with little to no parking.
Hands down, the best meal I’ve ever had! We were there for the Farfalla menu. The bolognese was amazing and the salad was out of this world! Sam was a great server too! It was a special evening. Can’t wait to return again.
This was the first time we came to Ellipsis, and we thoroughly enjoyed it. At Mariposa, we had good food and a great waitress in a relaxed atmosphere. We chose outside seating, which we enjoyed. Since we are familiar with the location, we had no expectations of quiet outside dining, and the weather was nice. We cannot wait for them to announce the next concept!
The service was wonderful and we enjoyed our food and drinks greatly. The $3 white sangria was a great value. The table shared the tortilla Española, gambas al ajillo, asparagus, albondigas and lemon dessert. The tomato-based sauce on the asparagus made that our favorite along with the tortilla and the dessert was the perfect, refreshing end to our meal. We can't wait to see what the next concept will be.
The food was exceptional! The charcuterie board for the table is generous and delicious. Cocktails were wonderful, and we appreciated the wine and tapa special. We all shared and had a feast!

We were being excited to have our favorite restaurant back, even if only for a night! Hoping to get back one more time before they're done! Food was perfect and our server was the best! Made our anniversary dinner spectacular!
Had GNO at Ellipsis Spanish Tapas. Great value wine flight for $17 (3 good sized glasses). Loved the shrimp (just enough spice), meatballs, potatoes were done perfectly & the cheese & ham board was generous. Will definitely return. Started night at Tru Blue down the block with a yummy Jive cocktail.
Seemed like an off night. There was a big party and we were an afterthought, about an hour between app and main course. The chairs at the bar tables were VERY uncomfortable. Steak was ordered medium (as recommended) came out well done. The server did the right thing and took it off the bill and apologized for the delays. The food we did have was good. A very uneven night.

It is unfortunate that I have to write an extremely negative review of our experience at Ellipsis, all as a result of ONE person...the bartender, Sam.
Ellipsis (and the Farfalla pop-up) came recommended by our real estate agent. Being new to the area, we had trouble finding the space (no signage and we didn't really understand the pop up theme restaurant concept). Upon entering and sitting at the bar, Sam was MOST unfriendly...in fact, he acted elitist and made us feel incredibly uncomfortable right from the get go.
We came in for the $5 drink specials (as a marketing professional, this was a great lead magnet), but as consummate foodies, we had every intention of enjoying some appetizers at the bar. I can honestly say that we NEVER have encountered someone who was so unwelcoming and downright rude to us. No smile, when I asked him questions, he was snarky and commented with things like "I worked in NY for years and I will NEVER go back" when we told him we were from Northern NJ. I was literally uncomfortable the whole time we were there so I'm actually surprised that we stayed as long as we did.
There was honestly not one thing that was friendly about this guy and he should NOT be in the service industry. I always try to give someone the benefit of the doubt as maybe they had a really bad day, but we simply could not connect with him no matter what we said. I tried asking him what restaurants obviously outside of Fortuna he would recommend, he walked over to the camera/microphone and literally said "how could I talk about any other restaurant when I work for this one?" It was like he was scripting...overselling us on the chef and the food but treating us like second class citizens. I have been in the service industry and worked as a bartender and server and again, this guy was the worst host I have EVER encountered.
Unfortunately, I doubt I will ever try another restaurant in this group because of the experience we had with Sam.
Oh, and I wanted to mention too that my husband accidentally knocked over a small succulent that was precariously perched on a high top table when we walked in. We offered to help clean it up and Sam groaned and moaned and said don't worry about it and then left water all over the floor under the high top. I again said to him if you give me a rag, I'm happy to clean it up to no avail. He never did go over and clean it up and the water just sat there on the floor under the table. I was worried customers would come in and slip.
All in all, we did get the burrata which was delicious, but only because we were starving.
The servers in the restaurant all seemed pleasant, but again, Sam should NOT BE in the service industry. Terrible experience and we won't be back.
The food was very good and service was outstanding, but the restaurant is in a renovated older home in downtown Wilmington and with all the hardwood floors and small space it's very noisy. It was hard to even hear the person speaking to me at my own table. We had a larger, very loud party sitting next to us, so the atmosphere may not always be this way, but that particular night was our first experience and it was not enjoyable on the noise level.
Wine flights good. The burrata with focaccia bread was really good!! Chicken in lemon broth very good. Fish dish not so good. Strange flavor and fatty. We like this place a lot but just ok last night. Some loud people were irritating also, not the restaurant's fault. Still say the chef is great.
We love the concept of rotating themes. Overall the food and service were good. The Bolognese had way too much sauce and too little pasta. Overall comments: Plates were too small for the food. Chicken was delicious but didn't fit on the plate and was impossible to eat because of small plate. Cace pepe was served in a ridiculous looking small bowl. Desserts were creative but not delicious. No coffees. It was very small so waiters and customers kept bumping into my chair, and it was VERY loud. Suggest some sound absorbers. We will try again, but at this price point it overall needs to be a little "finer". We hope it is a work in progress because we love True Blue!
We ordered a vegetable soup appetizer that was so large it could have been a main course. It was good, but we should have been warned about the size. Should have been offered in a cup instead of the bowl. The bolognese was good. Restaurant is very small with tables that were way too small & felt crowded. The items were pricey in line with fine dining that didn't feel like fine dining. Probably won't return
