Genki is easily the best sushi in Wilmington.Sushi is my favorite food, and over the years living in Wilmington I have always had my birthday dinner at sushi restaurants in town. Genki became the new birthday spot after one dinner there, and it has been for years since.Its strip mall storefront makes the place seem modest, but looks can be deceiving - the food and service is exquisite, from the carefully crafted sushi to the warm hand towels given to customers.As far as sushi goes, the yellowtail nigiri is the best we have tried. Trailing close behind comes the smelt roe nigiri (add a quail egg on top for maximum enjoyment) and eel rolls (cucumber or avocado).Another must is the miso soup! The hijiki seaweed salad is amazing too.Only positive things to say…

A great gem if you haven't stopped by please do. Go early so you can get a table-even at lunch. They have all my faves: sushi, katsu, soba, and more. Fresh and tasty.

We did take out and the tempura was missing crab and entre was missing rice.The rest of the food was good! Probably much better just dining in.--edit: they responded and explained what was going on. I'll definitely be back.

The restaurant gets busy quite quickly. I went right at 5 when they opened and it was almost filled up by 5:30.The quality of the food was very good. Every piece of raw fish tasted fresh and firm. The salmon miso soup was an interesting take on miso soup (and was surprisingly tasty). The pickles, side salad, and special appetizer (edamame beans with seaweed) all hit taste buds I didn't know I had.The only "issue" I had was the quantity of food. I don't consider myself a voracious eater but I was able to finish the sashimi and sushi dinner combo by myself. I'm not sure if it was meant to be shared but the price of it sure implied it.The atmosphere and service were good and it was interesting to hear the wait staff and chefs yell out Japanese greetings at everyone who came into the restaurant. The homemade toffee after the bill was also a pleasant surprise and I would have loved to buy a bag to take home.

We loved our dinners at Genki. The sushi was fresh and delicious. Soup and salad were ample portions. Our only criticism is that the small restaurant can't help but be loud and busy. Glad they're doing well but the pace was rather frenetic.

Wonderful as always, but sitting at the end of the bar, right next to the kitchen entrance was noisy and slightly chaotic. It also allowed us to see one of the waitresses stuff a bunch of trash, that fell on the floor, into the garbage can right before handing us soy sauce. Gross. It was also frustrating that they ran out of the complementary side and didn't replace it with anything else. Still our favorite place, though.

Pictured is the sushi deluxe, Matt specialty roll, Fire in the hole, tempura roll, and we got kimchi & assorted pickles as an appetizer…and of course a cold Sapporo! Sushi was definitely a step above most of the other sushi restaurants in town. We were seated right away and our service was efficient. The only complaint we had is that we didn't get enough wasabi and had to ask for a little more, but we like wasabi!

I have been coming here for 7 years and the service, atmosphere and quality of food has continued to be the best I've ever received. I’ve been treated like family from the first time I walked through the door. Chef Danny has always been working any time I’ve visited and I really appreciate the hard work. I love this place!
