Islands Fresh Mex Grill

My wife and I stopped in for lunch. We both had the taco salad bowls. We enjoyed the food and the staff seemed very friendly.

$1 tacos after 5pm w/ purchase of a drink. Our family of 5 ate for $35. Best deal in town.

On June 23 went for dinner at Islands location on Racine dr. Food was good as usual but when getting ready to leave went to the middle prep station in the restaurant to get a to go bag for my left over notice the employee behind the counter using a broom to swipe the floor was also using the same broom swiping off the prep- station and I found that to be unhealthy snd not sanitary. As much as I enjoyed eating at islands I will not be returning.

Great fresh food at a VERY good price, fast good service, 2 big meals 4 tacos each chips salsa ans drinks 14 dollors cant beat it, great fresh food too

This place is goated but for the love of god someone tell the employees to stop drenching the tacos w the sauce. I always ask for a LITTLE sauce and by the time I get home I can’t even hold my taco without covering my hands in slime. Usually I just tank it but this time was the last straw, they are so wet. Like does it really look appetizing to them? Idk I just watch in disgust. Also ik I’m being picky at this point but at least make an effort to evenly distribute toppings when there’s no line. They just threw a handful of pico on half of one and the other 3 have like none. Now I gotta play with my food pretty much to fix it. Anyways I love this place never change the dollar tacos but chillll on the sauce. The photo attached it the taco sticking to the foil while being held nearly straight up due to the amount of sauce that’s gotten on the outside of the tortilla

EDIT: okay I didn’t want to have to do this but Jesus Christ that was disgusting. My review is directed to the shorter young lady that was working toppings. I think maybe her English isn’t great but it’s literally always her. My tacos are so wet it’s brutal, I have to wash my hands mid way thru every taco. Last time the same thing happened with her, I even pinched my fingers to say “little” sauce. I guess maybe it’s a miscommunication but at least make an effort to make them good. Last time my food was made this pathetically was McDonald’s and that was one of worst meals I’ve ever had in my life.

I ordered food online and ordered queso on the side, but they put it on the burrito, I'm like OK fine whatever, can I just get it on the side like I ordered because I want it for the chips, not the burrito. They would rather give a $15 refund, instead of give me the $1.28 side of queso I already paid for in a cup. Not my fault you put it in the burrito when I ordered it as a side. The food is great, but service in this case was very poor. Also, the refund on the receipt didn't matter how the amount i paid, so if the full refund isn't back on my card, I will be contacting them again.

Ordered the shrimp burrito, and it literally couldn't have been more bland. Decided to try slathering it in the hot salsa, but it was essentially tomato water that they ground some pepper in. The chips literally had more heat than the salsa. Wife said the beef taco salad was better, so I guess they've got that going for them.

I have to give this location a 5 star. All other locations around town need to take notes on what they’re doing at this silver lake location! I have eaten at every islands location multiple times over the years and you can include this past year for this review as well for what is happening right now. I have run into either food not warm, hard rice, no flavor, bad chips, not enough beans or rice and even carelessness in making tacos.
NEVER at this location have I been disappointed. The food is fresh, warm and full of flavor. Chips always fresh and service is fast. Again, whatever yall are doing here needs to be passed onto the other islands! You’re the #1 spot out of all islands locations by far.

The chicken is disgusting. It tastes like freezer burned over cooked and even looks nasty. The queso and chip were good. I wouldn't recommend this restaurant until they get actual fresh chicken.
