Very disappointing. The food use to be the best, but now not sure if I would even go back. Got the fried chicken with pulled pork, slaw and mac and cheese. The chicken was no where near as good as it use to be. Found a hair that was either in the pulled pork or the slaw. The only good part was the mac and cheese. I do know that it is under new ownership there and the Sawmill.

Stopped with my wife for a late Saturday lunch at the end of a business trip a couple of weeks ago. Good food but the barbecue was barely lukewarm. Great service from a couple of college age kids.
I returned alone for a late (7:30) dinner as I was headed back out of town on a Friday. There were three other small parties seated and eating. A young lady greeted me and told me to sit anywhere. I did, and sat and sat and sat. The one waitress came and went two or three times to attend to the other diners. Not so much as a welcome and acknowledgment of my presence. After observing her standing behind the counter chatting with other employees, I decided to approach the counter and ask for service. By chance, at the same time she went to one of the other tables, chatted, with the folks for 5-6 minutes and then came to my table with an attitude and took my order. She returned promptly with my cold barbecue. She never returned to ask how things are or for me to order the additional hush puppies I wanted.
As a frequent business diner, I usually tip well. It pays off when I return to a restaurant. I receive very good service. I suspect she complained of my meager tip.
The sign said you are open until 8:00. If I walk in to a casual barbecue restaurant at 7:30, shouldn’t I be a valued customer? I won’t be back.

The worst. First bite and I wanted to hurl. The pork tasted spoiled and my mouth still feels like grease. Please save yourself, go anywhere else. But we had to try it as we used to go 15 years ago. I won’t be back in another 15.

Ate lunch at Jackson’s Big Oak Barbecue today for lunch. Food was great. Service was good. Come give it a try. Can’t meet a guy nicer than the owner, Hunter Davis.

The quality of the bbq doesn’t taste like same and fries had to much of the seasoning on them. I was truly disappointed in my meal

Too heavy on the mustard on the slaw. Ruins the sandwich

Reasons why I will now be a regular at this place:

1. Affordability. We bought 2 of the family meal deals and were so happy with how much they gave us. Thank you for remaining affordable and not shrinking portions in these tough economic times!

2. Quality. Hands down the TASTIEST bbq and sides I have had in wilmington. Those fancy new places don’t come close, and its way better than Smithfield’s. Green beans are probably the best I’ve ever had.

3. Service. Everything was well packaged and well prepared, they cut no corners.

Me and my son ate there last night and I don't know where these other people are doing their reviews from or even know what they're talking about when it comes to barbecue but.. I asked a question and they said no we don't cook over wood or you smoke we have an indoor cooker which was the first red flag..
When we finally got or to go combination plates I asked the help for sauce and they didn't know the difference between Western or Eastern Carolina sauces.
They called it pulled pork but it was chopped pork to the point of it was much and you can tell it's been in the steam tray for hours,
The ribs were done in an oven and then in a steam tray for who knows how long..
The only halfway decent thing about the whole meal was the fried pork chop.
It wasn't even that good and the only way I could even think of this place being a barbecue joint was a fact that you had two meats potato salad and a couple of sauces on a plate.
They have plaques and awards lining the walls but I guarantee that's not from whoever is running it now.
