3% "kitchen appreciation fee". Insulting. No thanks
The food was really good, however I could eat twice at another really good steakhouse for $218 for 2 people. It was kind of loud in there and I prefer a more cozy setting. Even though the food was great, it’s almost like people overpay on purpose to feel special. A family member took me there for my birthday. Didn’t enjoy it, but I think next time I’ll go to two nice restaurants instead.

PSA: There’s a 3% “Kitchen appreciation” fee which is “not a tip for your server”. Crazy idea… Pay your kitchen staff a reasonable rate and adjust your menu prices accordingly.

This restaurant charges a 3% “kitchen appreciation” charge, due to the fact that the owners are too cheap to pay their staff appropriately. I highly recommend avoiding this restaurant.

This restaurant forces it's customers to pay the kitchen staff a livable wage. Kitchen appreciation fee of 3%? Very scammy and not disclosed until after the check had been received. Instead of making the customer responsible for paying kitchen staff, the restaurant shoild be paying them appropriately. I already need to tip the server. Now I also need to tip the cook?
Beware of a "3% kitchen appreciation charge" because owner wants to pass on the cost of paying staff onto unsuspecting customers. This practice is scummy. Just increase the prices of your food.
Edit: In response to owner: Your argument is that if you accurately represent your prices to consumers, some wouldn't dine there. ?!?!?!?!
Scummy. This should be illegal. You are going to lose more business over this than if you just raised prices.
I would actually give it 3.75 stars. I went after playing 18, got there about 3:45-4:00. I was literally the only person dining. The server addressed me promptly. The menu is as good as you would want, minus a slim wine list. The food came out in a respectable amount of time. I got a 16 oz. choice ribeye, mac-n-cheese and an Italian blend glass of wine. I felt the steak was over salted, but the overall flavor was good. The knife was dull. I felt like I was cutting my steak with a butter knife. The m-n-c was a little runny, but great flavor. At one point a fly/gnat landed in my wine. It took me about 5-7 minutes to catch someone’s attention. They did immediately replace the glass. The cost was $99 (+ tip). Was it worth it? I personally didn’t think so. Would l return? Possibly, under the right circumstances or needs. I have to be honest and say I’d love to try the Wagu.

UPDATE: I sent the email as asked to discuss this matter further, and lo and behold there was no response. Obviously they want it to seem like they will take care of customers that receive bad service, but also equally obviously they do not actually care about addressing anything beyond how much money they can charge for the next poor sap that wastes their money here.
My wife and I decided to go out for a nice dinner on our anniversary. I wanted to take her somewhere really nice, cost be damned! We made a reservation for 7 and arrived a few minutes early. There was about a 20 minute wait to be seated, and the tiny little area at the front of the restaurant was rapidly filling with other people who were also waiting for their reservations. When we were finally sat, we were put at a cute little table near the kitchen; which while much louder and busier, was fine except for the table being so out of balance that our glasses almost fell over every time we moved. Annoying, but not the end of the world. Still determined to have a nice night out, we went ahead and ordered salads for each of us, steak frites for my wife and the 9 oz filet for myself, cooked medium and two sides each. Mind you, that filet was $65 by itself, with the grand total coming to just over $165 for two people. Our server, Claire according to the receipt, was about as terrible as server as I have ever had, and she managed to make sure both my wife and I were both thoroughly unhappy by the time we left. She seemed annoyed from the very jump, only refilled our drinks once, and outright ignored us several times; including when I literally had my hand up waving in the air while she was looking out towards the dinning area. She also REACHED ACROSS MY WIFE'S PLATE WHILE SHE WAS STILL ACTIVELY EATING TO TAKE HER SILVERWARE. TWICE!! With no words! Just reached straight over her and took her fork and switched it out with another one. There is no world where that is acceptable behavior, that is extremely disrespectful. To get our check, I had to flag down another server and tell her that I was sorry but I couldn't get my server's attention. Claire still never spoke to us, even though we watched her come in and out of the kitchen and walked past our table multiple times. I finally had to ask the woman who I assume was the manager if she could possibly take my money so that I could leave. Our server finally came back to the table to give us the receipt and say "oh, sorry for the wait". Cool, good to know that's the kind of service you get for a $200 dinner date. Food was mostly good, music was mediocre at best, service was terrible. Do not recommend.

Food was well prepared and tasty. It didn’t take too long to arrive. Nice atmosphere but it was very loud with people talking in big open room. Live sax was nice. Service was pretty good. It’s overpriced. $71 for two brunch meals with no appetizer or alcohol. That’s a lot. Maybe a 3 star for that reason but I’ll be nice.

I realize that some of my issues with True Blue may be non-issues to others. However with the cost of the meal, I believe the level of service should match. To summarize, we were disappointed and it will be a while, if ever, before we go back. We use to go to tru blue a couple of times a year, but the last two visit have been..... well now you can read my story if you want to know.
My wife and I had dinner reservations on valentines day 2/14/25. We arrived about an hour before our reservations to get drinks at the bar. Walking up to the hostesses, we let them know we were here and would be at the bar. The hostesses told us to come back to her closer to our reservation. I immediately thought "Dam, can you not come get us when our table is ready, we are just sitting at the bar." The bar service was excellent. Drinks came fast and the bartenders were all very friendly. Our reservation time arrived and we found our way back to the hostesses. We were seated and it only took a few moments for our waiter Eric to arrive. Eric took our drink orders and left. 1 minute later another waiter comes to the table and asks for our drink order. While this is not a big deal, it started to show how unorganized staff was. Eric come back with ours drinks as the new waiter is asking for our drink selection. They quick figured out who table it was and we moved on.
Next we ordered a sharable carb cake as an appetizer. It was OK, but nothing like what we had in the past. The kitchen also loaded the plate with greens. I mean a lot of greens. It was to the point I suspected they were just trying to get rid of it. It was heavy covered in dressing. 3/4 of the plate was greens, surrounding this little crab cake.
After finishing the shareable, we sat for roughly 2-3 mins and my wife got up to use the bathroom. 30 seconds after she got up, the staff though it was a great idea to bring our main courses out. This really surprised me. Normally you would wait for both customers to be at the table to serve. This was the third time I was thinking "wtf." I sat there watching oir food cool waiting for my wife to return. We both ordered a 6oz filet mignon, medium rare. OK, this is were either I became ridiculous or everything started to go down hill quick. The steak was over cooked. It was delivered standing in its side. It was standing on the side to cover, when cooking my 6 oz steak, they cooked a larger piece and just cut my portion off of it. We also order sides of Mac and cheese, asparagus, and Brussel sprouts. All three sides were banging.
So we finished our main course. Eric came and cleared the table. We asked for dessert first. His response was they are complete out of desserts. Being valentines day, I believed him. So next we asked for coffee. His response was they already cleaned the pot and could not make any more. This left me stunned. An expensive restaurant, that has taken pride in their food and service in the past, the level of service i received that night was truly disappointing. We paid our bill and started to leave. As we are walking out, we see a waitress delivering a dessert to a table and one of the bartenders making an espresso martini. Which is on the dessert menu. We paid over $250 for that experience.
It will be awhile, if ever, before we return. I miss the first couple of year of True Blue. As far as the atmosphere, it's the same as it has ever been. The main dinning room needs a deep clean. More than just mopping, buff that floor. Also they may have added some tables, maybe not. It felt the tables along the wall were on top of each other.

Very good food and service..but literally the smallest oysters i have ever had in my life.
BIG MISTAKE
Visited for lunch
Was told by the waiter that soup of day was seafood with scallops. Ordered a bowl but was served a beef based soup & was never informed by the waiter or server that kitchen was out of seafood soup.Started to eat soup but realized there was no seafood.but beef soup which I do not eat for health reasons.
Waiter appeared at table & was finally informed kitchen was out of soup of the day .At this point my lunch partner had finished her hamburger & i quickly ordered the fish taco that fell apart &/served with an over dressed salad
This made for a disappointing & inexcusable lunch.

I made this review for their other restaurant (see attached) They steal money from employees, this is 110% completely true as they had a class action lawsuit brought to them (can find info online) and had to pay previous and current employees reparations for it :) please do yourself a favor and do not support these local thieves.
