I finally made it to Ackingna's Place, and I can wholeheartedly attest that this is a true soul food treasure worth traveling for. I now understand exactly why patrons happily drive miles, passing countless other spots, just to relish this incredible home-style cooking. The experience is refreshingly old-fashioned—a walk-up window concept that ensures lightning-fast service, perfect for grabbing a quick, delicious lunch. A key tip: remember to bring cash, as they operate on a cash-only basis, which streamlines the entire process.

The food itself is magnificent. The $10 plate is an outstanding value, offering a hearty portion of your chosen protein (I went with the deeply satisfying county-style steak) along with two generous sides and a piece of that classic, old-fashioned cornbread. I doubled up on the Mac and Cheese because I heard the rumors, and it is creamy, baked perfection—easily some of the best I've ever had. Similarly, the collard greens are unbelievably good; seasoned just right.

What truly elevated the meal, however, was the dessert. The lemon pound cake is absolutely phenomenal—better than any bakery slice, rivaling even cherished family recipes. The combination of excellent, hot food, fair prices, and genuinely friendly staff makes this establishment a required stop. Whether you need a quick bite or crave authentic soul food, Ackingna's Place delivers every time.

Walk-up dining only, no tables, CASH ONLY, breakfast all day cook to order....Lunch Buffet hot and ready for quick service, or cook to order other menu items. Always good soul food with fair price desserts ready as well... $10 plates come with meat, 2 sides and cornbread or roll. Favorite place to stop if I'm in a hurry! Friendly staff as well!

The parking is an issue. There's no space to turn around if the lot is full.

My family and I absolutely love this place. We have been going here for over 12 years. I have driven from Charlotte North Carolina a few times before moving from Greensboro North Carolina to come to this place. The food is good, the owner and her family is wonderful. My favorite is The fried chicken, stewed, okra and tomatoes, and rice and pinto beans mixed with a lot of hot sauce on my chicken.

I actually drive thirteen miles one way, past numerous home-style cooking, restaurants to relish this food. It’s the old fashioned walk-up restaurant concept, that has the available food offerings behind a glass window for customers to peruse. I always get double Mac and Cheese, because it is that great! The collard greens are ridiculously good too. I choose my protein according to what l feel that day… county style steak, fried chicken, meatloaf, neck bones, ribs…oh my! Plus, the cornbread is made the old fashioned way…yummy. But the lemon pound cake is better than anything l have tasted anywhere, except at my own mom and grandmother’s tables. A treasure in Winston-Salem. Thank you Winston-Salem Eats @movingtowinstonsalem8499, Ramon Lomeli’s YouTube channel segment showcasing Ackingna’s Place, in February 2025.

It's a walk up. They need more covering. The food is OK. I'm not recommending it though.
